Actress Zsa Zsa Gabor is listed in very serious condition and has been given “last rites” after having surgery near her heart to remove a blood clot on Saturday.
The Beverly Hills Courier reports that the 93-year old actress went into life-saving surgery yesterday, Aug. 14, to have 2 blood clots removed (one near her heart) and have 2 stents implanted.
Gabor’s publicist, John Blanchette said, “There were actually two clots. One was very close to the heart, so we’re lucky they caught it in time.” and told the media, “It’s a very difficult time for her family and for us.”
The Daily Mail reports Gabor’s husband, Frederic Prinz von Anholt, said his wife was conscious, but could speak little, when a priest visited her at Ronald Reagan ULCA Medical Center Saturday evening to read her “last rites.”
Though earlier reports have suggested that the Touch of Evil actress might be released as early as Monday or Tuesday of next week, her health appears to have taken a grave turn for the worse.
The health of the famous socialite has had it’s share of upswings and downturns. On July 23, publicist John Blanchette revealed the famous socialite was in “critical condition,” “bleeding excessively and “uncommunicative.”
For 4 weeks following her surgery, friends and fans eagerly awaited news of her health and hospital release for signs her health was improving.
In total, the Moulin Rouge actress was scheduled to leave the hospital 3 times, each cancelled due to a serious complication such as shock or infection.
Gabor was finally released and able to return to her home in Bel Air on Wed, Aug. 11 — only to be transported back to the hospital a mere 48 hours later, Friday, Aug. 13, with more complications from bleeding.
The condition of the Hollywood icon stems from a fall in her home on July 17 that occurred while watching Jeopardy (her favorite TV show) and attempting to answer the telephone.
Von Anhalt called emergency services, and the famous socialite was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where she received emergency hip replacement surgery.
Gabor’s international fame as a symbol of glamour, luxury, and sex-appeal was a much bigger role in real life than any she played in film. Her ability to charm and fascinate audiences with juicy tidbits about her illustrious lovers and many marriages was revealed on talk shows and in books such as her “How To Catch A Man, How to Keep A Man, How To Get Rid Of A Man.”
A Hollywood original, she was often asked to perform characters in productions that were caricatures of her own personality and sense of style.
Did you know? Zsa Zsa Gabor was once married to (and had a child with) Conrad Hilton, Paris Hilton’s great-grandfather.
