Beauty icon Zsa Zsa Gabor, now 93, was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center on Saturday after sustaining several broken bones from a fall in her home.
BNO newswire reports that Gabor’s husband, Frederic Prinz von Anhalt, called paramedics when the actress took a tumble while watching TV at her posh residence in Bel Air, CA.
She was reportedly watching Jeopardy, her favorite show, when she fell while trying to answer the phone.
Doctors say the Hollywood icon will have to undergo hip replacement surgery to repair the damage.
The actress has a history of limited mobility and uses a wheelchair due to a car accident in 2002 and a stroke in 2005. In 2007, a leg infection caused by her immobility was so serious it required surgery.
Gabor’s fame as an actress and model in the 50’s was soon overshadowed by her love of wealth, rich men and numerous marriages. She has been married 9 times, including 1 annullment. George Sanders, Zsa Zsa’s 3rd husband, later married Zsa Zsa’s sister Magda Gabor (which lasted only 6 weeks).
In later years, Gabor became known for her bad temper after she slapped a police officer (knocking off his sunglasses), during a routine traffic stop. A minor road chase ensued, as did the Hollywood icon’s subsequent arrest.
Ultimately she was charged with battery of an officer, disobeying an officer, driving without registration, driving without a license, and having an open container of alcohol (due to a flask found in the glove compartment of her car).
People Magazine quotes Gabor saying, “People are always picking on me, and the actress revealed, “Usually they say, ‘Zsa Zsa, what’s the matter, are you married these days, do you want to marry me?’ “
In 1952 she was cast in John Huston’s Moulin Rouge and appeared in Vincente Minelli’s The Story of Three Loves in 1953.
As a performer, she is mostly remembered for her larger than life personality on talk shows, as well as the over-the-top, campy characters on TV shows such Batman, F Troop, Gilligan’s Island, Love Boat, The Facts of Life, Bonanza and Mr. Ed. (See photos in slideshow)
