In this day and age with your smartphone you get the options to get some Applications. Or Apps as the hip cool kids say these days. I for one have a Droid Eris phone and I have some Apps I use on a daily basis. Some of those you probably won’t use or care to use. However I will be taking a look at in the coming days and weeks into some Applications that you could use when out and about in Philadelphia or any other city you happen to be at. The first one I will be taking a look at is called “Open Table”. I don’t know if this is available for iPhone users I can only speak on the Android peeps out there. See I said peeps as if I too am hip and cool.
Open Table lets you turn your phone into a restaurant locater. You can even send in a reservation over the phone. So for example you forget it’s your wife birthday or your anniversary but you remember at the last minute. Hit up Open Table and look for her favorite restaurant and book yourself a table. Playing off the fact you actually forgot the birthday or anniversary will take some acting skills none of which will affect the way you use Open Table.
Now let’s take a look at indepth at the functions of Open Table. You click on Open Table and it pops up two selections. Find Tables and Find a Restaurant. When using Find a Restaurant you use this when you know the exact name you want to look for or a name of a restaurant you were at before. Find Tables on the other hand is what I will be using during this demonstration. So I click Current Location and get hit with Date and Time, Party Size, and max results to be used in my search. Since I am in Quakertown at the moment I will use this search. So I entered in the default time and date and pumped up my search to 100 results. Then I am met with a HUGE selections to choose from. It lists restaurants that are in the immediate area from 1.4 miles away all the way out to 19.9 miles away. I instead will chose to go to Shula’s Steakhouse.
After selecting your restaurant of choice you get a breakdown of the place. It gives you the Profile of the restaurant and the Menu and Reviews. So you have a better chance of finding the food you really want to have and see what other people thought of it. So I looked at the menu and pick a time. Now you can either be a member of Open Table or you can skip and book the table as a guest. I am a guest so let’s skip that option and continue forward. I am presented with entering my Name my Email and Phone Number. Now when you become a member of Open Table and reserve tables at certain times you can earn points towards free meals. So memberships do have their benefits.
So after I fill in my information and get a confirmation page with my phone number and a Special Requests section. Meaning you can inform them that it’s some ones birthday or whatever you can imagine. Doesn’t really mean that they will actually accommodate all your requests but it is still a nice option.
Thanks for reading a brief rundown of What the Apps man? Next up will be my favorite goofy Application but can come in real handy when in a food pinch. Until then feel free to leave some comments, sign up to get the latest on when my articles hit the page and check out some other dampfang.com pages while you are here.
