First off, forgive me for the vaguely cliché title on this one. But Jaws was on TV the other night and that particular line, for some crazy reason, made me think of expansion. And, after you get your feet wet in an entrepreneurial endeavor, that’s just what you need to do.
More times than not, an entrepreneur starts with something small. A small investment here. A couple sales there. And a lot of entrepreneurs become incredibly successful by doing that. But you’re still running a small scale operation. Eventually, you’ll hit a limit.
Say you own a small deli. It catches on quick, and, before you know it, people are lining up around the corner. Certainly, this is good for business. But, eventually, you’ll become overwhelmed with customers to the point that you’ll have to increase inventory and eventually employ more workers. By that time, it’s better for business to open a second location. If your business is that successful, acquiring more territory and spreading out will only increase sales.
Going back to the Jaws comment, I have to also pay respect to a particular website I used recently as an inspiration for this article. And don’t worry; this isn’t some sort of plug for a friend’s business. The site is simply a free resource I used, but the amount of ground they cover is overwhelming.
Recently, I was in need of some exterior painting. So, like anyone else, I googled “Philadelphia exterior painters.” Well, after perusing site after site, I found myself a bit flustered. So, I called it quits for the time being. However, at work the next day, a colleague of mine referred me to www.localpainterquotes.com, a site where they find you a local painter depending on your location, the job you want done, and when you want it done by. It was so simple that I was left wondering why anyone would ever have to use Google again to find a painter.
Anyways, I’m not going to go on about how this site for painting quotes helped me out personally. But, when I decided to write about expansion, I felt it necessary to mention. Essentially, if more people knew about them, there would be no reason to use any other resource for finding a painter. So, amidst this mildly ramble-infused article, I hope you’ve taken away that expansion is key to taking your entrepreneurship to the next level. Donald Trump didn’t get to be entrepreneur he is without buying up some territory.
