Let’s not pretend that we didn’t see what Ciara wore to Lala Vasquez and her husband Carmello Anthony’s wedding recently. This dress definitely raised alot of eyebrows across the country, and also brought many important questions to surface: how short is too short for a wedding? Where is the line drawn between “simple, yet sexy” and “over the top”? Is sexy even appropriate for a wedding? Here are some tips to make sure you don’t show up looking skanky to your friend, coworker, or family member’s wedding(Photosource:glamour.com).
We could say that mini dresses are not appropriate at all, but that is not necessarily the case. Although mini represents any dress or skirt that is above the knee, it really depends on your body type, and height, to determine lengths. My suggestion would be to stick with a dress that either hits a flattering point by the knee, and/or do not go past mid thigh. Mid thigh on anyone would be too short of a dress to wear to someone’s wedding. Besides, you don’t want to look like the desperate friend or family member that is obviously trying to attract attention from any man there, single or unavailable. A short dress gives off the wrong idea.
Showing too much skin
Wearing an outfit that is too revealing can also make your appearance come across rather skanky, due to the fact that you are at a wedding, not a nightclub. There will be family members there, which means kids and elder people that may have rather conservative views, and it would be a pretty uncomfortable feeling to sit around with your backside almost out, or your dress only covering your unmentionables. Make sure you follow the ratio: if you are showing off your legs, cover up your back and arms, and if you are going strapless or backless, make sure your legs are covered in a decent manner. It gives just the right dose of sexiness without oozing it. Avoid anything too low cut and skin tight as well.
Overdoing the shiny stuff
There is a reason weddings exist, and it’s not just to unite two in holy matrimony. It is also the bride’s day to shine, and stand out from everyone else. Don’t be the girl that walks in with an overload of glitter and sequins, looking as if your outfit was made from a wedding dress itself. Wearing something too shiny will draw way too much attention to yourself, which may not give off the right vibe. People at the wedding, and more importantly the bride, may feel that you are engaging in attention seeking antics, and this could cause problems. Besides, you don’t want to walk in looking like a disco ball. Save the sequins and glitter for your night life!
