It looks like the extremely warm West Michigan August will linger into September. The Climate Prediction Center just published their forecast for next month. Notice the broad area of above average temperature for Lower Michigan and the Southeast. I think the first week or two are likely to be the warmest with the temperatures cooling toward the end of the month.
I’m already thinking ahead to the first rounds of cold air and lake effect snow. Remember the Lake Michigan water temperatures hit the 80° mark this summer. Once the cold air arrives and the snow starts we may get hit with several bouts of heavy lake effect snow. The lake may stay warm enough to keep the lake effect snow machine going well into the winter season. I’ll have more on that as we get into fall.
