According to a survey conducted by Sports Illustrated, Justin Verlander’s fast ball is the best in the game. The Detroit News reported today that 30 percent of the 339 MLB players surveyed said that Verlander’s stuff was the nastiest.
Speaking of the Tigers, they lost a heartbreaker last night to the Texas Rangers, dropping an 8-6 decision in 14 innings. Also lost, the services of Tigers’ third basemen Brandon Inge. He suffered a broken left arm when he was hit by a pitch thrown by the Ranger’s Scott Feldman in the third inning. Inge is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with the injury.
It’s unclear who will be Inge’s replacement at the hot corner for the next month or so. If the Tigers decide to address the situation from inside the organization, Don Kelly, Ryan Raburn and Danny Worth have all played third base at the major league level. Any way you slice it, losing Inge will hurt the team, who currently are on a six game losing skid.
