While the relaxing and eco-friendly accommodations of the Westin Riverfront can be vacation unto itself, the rejuvenating spa services of Spa Anjali, the serious (in a fun way) golf at Red Sky Ranch & Golf Club, and a memorable dining experience at Restaurant Avondale adds multiple dimensions to your vacation experience.
Red Sky Ranch & Golf Club
Located just 20 minutes away, the Red Sky Ranch & Golf Club has 2 of the top ranked courses in Colorado. Being at elevation affords golfers some extra distance to their game. The scenery is comparable to that of the Westin Riverfront with beautifully maintained courses to match. Course play is challenging, but not evil on the Tom Fazio Course. Through the Westin Riverfront, you can play either one round, accompanied by a spa treatment at Spa Anjali, or two rounds at Red Sky through their golf packages.
Aside from the tranquil, eco-friendly décor and policies, the real standout is the superb staff with a wide breadth of knowledge and skill to offer a multitude of treatments, inspired by mountainous regions around the world.
Having sampled the Classic Anjali Massage to work out the aches and pains from trying to repair a glitchy swing, you’re so grateful that you got Audrey as your therapist (ask for her, no arguments!), because she specializes in treating ailments in the hands, and assures you your elbow will be OK. The heat and aroma therapy features of the treatment make it a real healing experience, both mind and body. After the treatment, she makes recommendations for spa products for home therapy, and the rest of the spa staff are more than helpful answering questions and finding the products you need. Steam and Sauna round out the experience nicely, and you wish you could end your day right there when it’s all done, but the stomach growls for attention, and dinner is in order.
Owned by renowned chef Thomas Salamunovich, the restaurant and its fare is a fusion of West Coast cuisine combined with local ingredients. Much of the ingredients come from farms in the area, which serve the restaurant exclusively. The restaurant matches the eco-friendly efforts of the Westin Riverfront. The atmosphere is stylish, but casual, great for parties and intimate dinners. The wait staff is so schooled and knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients, that they could sweep it if it were a “Jeopardy” category.
If you’re looking for a well-rounded dining experience, a multi-course meal is the way to go. You find yourself enjoying food (or the way it’s prepared) you never thought you would. The mussels and squid were fantastic. The arugula topping balances out the savory mushroom pizza with ricotta cheese and truffle oil drizzle. The strawberry sorbet complements the goat cheese cake and almond meringue. The latte finishes it off nicely. You’ve never fancied yourself a foodie, but after this you just might become one. The fusion of West Coast cuisine and ingredients local to the area are a match made in heaven.
Accommodations, check. Dining, check. Spa experience, check. Golf, check. Great summer vacation.. Check. You never thought you’d have so much fun and relaxation in so little time, but you did, and as with any great vacation, you don’t want it to end.
