After years of speculation and rumors, Usher officially confirmed that he did indeed cheat on ‘What Chilli Wants’ star and TLC singer Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas.
Admitting that it was his “cross to bare” and true reason behind the break up, Usher told VH1’s Behind The Music “it didn’t work out”.
“The cross that I had to bare was that I cheated,” said Usher. “From there, we didn’t work out.”
While Usher’s cheating left Chilli in shock, it followed a troubled period in their several year romance. According to Usher, he wanted to get married and start a family, something Chilli was not ready for after divorcing producer Dallas Austin.
“I basically was settled. I wanted to be with this woman and was willing to
do everything she wanted,” the “There Goes My Baby” singer admits. “What I expected and wanted from her wasn’t what she could give me at the time.”
As for Chilli, the cheating put an end to several years of not just their romantic relationship but friendship.
“I never thought of him cheating, I didn’t expect anything like that from
him because of how much we loved each other… I went to him and he, he admitted it,” she told VH1. “I just kind of shut down completely. I didn’t want to see him.. I just shut everything out.”
As previously reported, Usher joins Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Lopez and Courtney Love as an artist chronicled on VH1’s latest season of “Behind The Music”. In addition to Chilli, Usher’s mother/manager Jonetta Patton, as well as several music journalists and friends appeared on the special.
