Next month has a lot of exciting opportunities for MMA fighters and fans in the state of Ohio. First, a couple of quick announcements:
Tonight, Bellator continues its women’s tournament in the 115-pound division. Megumi Fujii and Jessica Aguilar have already won their quarterfinals last week and will later move on to the semifinals. Until then, Zoila Frausto will have to face off against Jessica Pene, while Aisling Daly will face off against Lisa Ward. Predictions: Frausto wins via KO, and Ward wins via submission.
Also, Havoc Extreme Cagefighting has been canceled for this weekend. And the Yankee Lake Brawlroom event originally slated for Aug. 28 has moved to a later date (addressed below). Now, a list of September’s MMA shows follows:
NAAFS kicks off the month with a Fan Appreciation Night at North Coast Showdown 6, which takes place in Streetsboro. In addition to a night of MMA bouts, fighters (such as Jessica Eye) will sign autographs, prizes will be given out, and parking will be free! Keep in mind that this particular show happens on a Friday evening, so plan ahead to avoid any work issues. As always, feel free to submit a fighter application on their website for future cards.
Ohio Xtreme Fighting 18: Vendetta occurs the same day in Dayton at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. Fighters can sign up for their events on their site.
If Fridays don’t work for you, Columbus will have the Amateur MMA Festival the very next day. The card does still need several more amateur fighters from various weight classes, so fill out an entry form on their website if interested. By the way, despite its name, the show will feature some professional bouts.
NAAFS will make history by holding Ohio’s first ever all-female event – Eve of Destruction. Professional fighters Jessica Eye and Marissa Caldwell headline the show, which features a stacked card of mostly amateurs from the tri-state area. It takes place in Akron and will air on Pay-Per-View along with Ustream, likely garnering national attention and being one of the most important MMA events of the year. Hopefully, it will go so well that it might happen on an annual or biannual basis.
Ladies, sign up for this show! (I myself am attempting to get on this card.) And remember not to take another fight within 30 days prior to the show because this is against NAAFS rules. If you do not get an opponent, then make sure to attend the event regardless. That way, you get to study your competition and even support your fellow women competitors.
For those with little interest in WMMA, Ground and Pound 12 happens in Montpelier at the Ramada Inn that same day. AVJ Events presents this pro/am card, which might still need a few professional fighters between lightweight and middleweight.
Yet another Friday event, NAAFS will hold Caged Vengeance 8 at the Aladdin Shrine Center in Columbus. Ustream will air this show as well.
Finally, Yankee Lake Brawlroom 23 has been rescheduled for this day. This amateur event will occur in Brookfield. If wanting to attend or participate, then click this link for more details.
