A pimp is a man who forces another person into prostitution by using deception or physical assault. For many anti-human trafficking and child sexual exploitation advocates, pimping sounds nothing more than a pure predation of women and children. But, pimping, for the pimps themselves, is an art and a lifestyle that they live by following the rules and regulations. Unfortunately, pimps also have their own philosophy and ideology which promote such exploitative culture among the young girls and boys in the U.S.
Pimpology ( Philosophy of PImp)
One research lays out the philosophy or idealogy behind pimping, which justifies exploitation of women and children by all means. Pimps are motivated by an ideology, which deceives many young boys into fancy lifestyle of exploiting women and children. According to pimping philosophy, there are only two types of people in life, pimps and ho’s. It is up to a person to decide which role one is going to play in the game. A pimp picks up a woman who is willing to prostitute herself for him. When a woman “produced all she can for the pimp, she is discarded and the pimp finds himself a new one to make him money.” More women a pimp gets to work for him, more respected and successful reputation he carries in the pimps’ world.
Successful life defined by a pimp
As mentioned above, a pimp’s successful life is defined by how many women that he can get them to work for him to maintain his extravagant life style:
A pimp must be skilled at assessing a woman’s needs and vulnerabilities. Understanding how to exploit those vulnerabilities and fulfill those unmet needs will enable him to prostitute her.
Therefore, pimping or pimpology inevitably focuses on bringing about different ways and methods to exploit women and children, including, physical abuse, emotional abuse, drug abuse, and deception.
Baits to prostitute women
As persuasive speech is one of the qualities for a successful pimp, some pimps convince women that prostitution would bring financial success and prosperity for the women. Pimps also tell women that they are so beautiful that men want them and will “pay their hard earning money for them.” In a way, pimps convey the message that “women are sitting on a gold mine, if they “work the game [prostitution] good enough.” But the biggest bait of all that a pimp offers a woman to enter prostitution is by offering her “a sense of belong-ness, love, and exciting hope for the future.”
There was a sense of belonging that women longed for, a sense of exciting hope for the future, an adventure that would take them from their meager existence into a life with a man who told them they had special skills, intelligence, and beauty.Inreturnforhisattention, protection, andlove, shewould be required to work to bring their dream into reality. Reese speaks in terms of “goals” as he works his women.
Understanding pimps’ mentality can be helpful in dissuading young people from entering the world of pimping and prostitution. Pimps often lure young women into working for them by telling them that they are beautiful, intelligent, and know how to trick men to get them sleep with them for money. And, many of the victims that pimps predate are the teenagers who are longing for affection, affirmation, and love, which their families failed to give to them. Likewise, many teenage boys enter the world of pimping because pimping, on the surface level, offers an easy way of accomplishing extravagant lifestyle and sense of belong-ness to the boys. Therefore, advocacy effort in the area of educating young women and men in this area is urged. In particular, educating these young men and women that masculinity is not determined by how many women that a man can get to prostitute for him. Likewise, efforts to educate potential victims that they worth much more than what these pimps are telling them to be and inform them of the potential dangers occurred when following pimps must be disseminated among the teen girls.
