Update: The Eloise Suite at the Plaza has been in the news recently as the New York City lodging for Denise Richards and her two children with actor Charlie Sheen, star of Two and a Half Men. The hotel suite allegedly “trashed” by Mr. Sheen is located across the hall and is NOT the Eloise Suite.
While many hotels provide Presidential Suites or similar, the truly mythic hotels and resorts offer the justly unique. In our own backyard, The Brown Palace has the Eisenhower Suite with its famous dent in the fireplace mantle. Other suites have hosted luminaries from The Beatles to those who are known by a single name.
Yet no hotel mythology can compare with a guest named Eloise and her stay at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. Eloise, the fictional heroine of Kay Thompson’s classic book, an eternal child who lives the high-life at The Plaza Hotel (long before Home Alone 2).
The newly refurbished Plaza Hotel has opened its one-of-a-kind Eloise Suite located on the 18th floor of the landmark building at the corner of Central Park South and 5th Avenue. The suite designed by Betsey Johnson (yes, she has a store in Cherry Creek North on Clayton Lane) is designed for children primarily for children, parents have the option of securing the adjacent Edwardian suite.
The room exudes the tastes of most little girls with a palette of pink and black lit by a chandelier with pink bulbs (flattering for us adults as well). The walls, candy striped in hues of pink and white contrast the zebra-print carpeting. Bedding, accent furniture, a pink headboard and of course, Eloise spelled out in neon lights makes the room a fantasy come true for any fan of Eloise. An art-deco fantasy for a child.
Within the roomare modern 21st century accents including a wall-mounted flat-screen TV and DVD player complete with Eloise DVD’s and books. A tea set is provided for the child-host and the Eloise robes and towels provide the ultimate immersion into the fantasy world now a reality.
