G’Vine Gin now has a product that rivals all other gins on the market – the Floraison captures the essence of the exhilarating fragrance of the vineyard offering a floral spiced gin flavor.
While most of the world’s gin is made from a grain spirit base, G’Vine Gin, produced in France’s Cognac region, uses the locally grown Ugni Blanc grape varietals as the base. Just as the very first historical juniper spirits in France, Belgium and Holland were crafted in the 13th century, the grape base results in a silky, luxurious taste and smooth, heady character. The grape base is then infused with the rare and delicate vine flower and other botanicals to create a complex and new flavor profile.
G’Vine has developed two distinctive gins: Floraison and Nouaison. We sampled the Nouaison, which was the perfect accompaniment to a warm summer day. The smooth gin offers a uniquely flavorful floral aroma and taste.
In September, the grapes are harvested, pressed and converted to wine. The result is then distilled, producing a neutral grape spirit over 96.4% ABV –192.8 proof. The grape spirit base is then infused with an unusually delicate and rare ingredient: the vine flower. Once a year, in mid-June, the rare green grape flower blossoms. A unique fragrance of flowers and fruits arises from the vineyard. This delicate flower, which exists for just a few days before maturing into a grape berry, is immediately hand picked to preserve its fragrance. The flower is carefully macerated in the neutral grape spirit over a period of several days to obtain the best floral essence. The infusion is then distilled in a small Florentine pot still. As the neutral grape spirit and the green grape flower infusion are nurtured, nine fresh whole botanicals are chosen for their purity and aroma are collected from all over the world. These botanicals include juniper berries, ginger root, licorice, cassia bark, green cardamom, coriander, cubeb berries, nutmeg and lime. From there, the botanicals are macerated over a two to five day process to extract their pure essence and distilled in the neutral grape spirit.
In the final step of production, the green grape flower infusion, the botanicals distillates and more neutral grape spirit are blended together in perfect proportion and undergo yet another distillation in a copper pot. The result is G’Vine, the first gin made from grape spirit, featuring the rare and delicate vine flower. For more information, visit www.g-vine.com.
