Last week’s episode Hitting the Ground contained many key moments that are guaranteed to affect the outcome of season 3 and future seasons to come.
If you have yet to begin season 3, I ask you to please refrain from reading this recap due to the large amount of spoilers contained within.
The following is a detailed account of the events that occurred in episode 31 Hitting the Ground. Let’s see what our favorite Bon Temps natives have been up to…
Sookie is currently in the worst scenario imaginable. After finding her one true love Bill nearly drained of his blood, Sookie makes a brave attempt to save him, but is interrupted by Lorena. Enraged at Sookie’s presence in the slave quarters, Lorena violently throws Sookie against the wall and bites her neck. While consuming Sookie’s blood, Lorena manages to stop herself for a brief moment to tell Sookie precisely how delicious her blood tastes and asks the question “What are you?” In this moment, Bill rises; grabbing Lorena from behind and wrapping a silver chain around her neck. He then drags Lorena down to the ground and orders Sookie to kill her. Sookie reacts quickly by grabbing a sharp object and answering Lorena’s question accordingly with “I’m the b**** that’s going to kill you”. Sookie then plunges the object into Lorena’s chest, causing her to finally meet her eternal resting place. Tara and Alcide enter the slave quarters and find Sookie covered in Lorena’s blood. Sookie locates a key amid the pile of Lorena’s remains and unlocks Bill from his shackles. Tara and Alcide begin helping Sookie wrap Bill in a drape when they are interrupted by Debbie, gun in hand. As Debbie threatens Alcide and Sookie, Tara uses her thoughts to tell Sookie to distract Debbie in any way possible. Sookie lets out a shrill shriek that takes Debbie by surprise, giving Tara an ample opportunity to tackle Debbie, causing her to drop the gun. Alcide picks up the gun and aims it at Debbie as Coot enters the quarters. Coot spots Alcide and is ready to charge, but is stopped when Alcide shoots him in the head. Alcide orders Sookie and Tara to take Bill outside into his van as he holds Debbie at gunpoint. Debbie swears that she will hunt Alcide down for what he has done to her lover. Alcide states that he believes her and locks her in the quarters. Sookie decides to ride in the back of Alcide’s enclosed van with Bill while Alcide and Tara ride in the front. As they drive away from the quarters, they are attacked by werewolves, but manage to escape unharmed.
Meanwhile, Sam is searching for Tommy at a dog fighting ring in Union Parrish. He attempts to drive through Union Parrish, but is stopped by an older man wearing a cowboy hat and holding a shotgun. Sam attempts to pose as a gambler searching for a way to spend his money, but the man is not easily fooled. He points his shotgun at Sam and orders him to leave Union Parrish if he wishes to stay alive. Knowing that it is best to leave, Sam drives away, but stops shortly after at a secluded location near Union Parrish. Sam realizes that he will not get past anyone in his human form, so he turns himself into a pitbull. When Sam finds the dog fighting ring, he is wrangled by one of the ring leaders. The ring leader walks Sam over to a cage and is just about to put Sam inside when Sam transforms back into his human self and punches the leader, causing him to fall to the floor traumatized. Sam locates an alarm and pulls it, causing the current fight between Tommy and another dog to come to a halt. Sam releases all of the other dogs that were locked in cages and goes outside to find Tommy. He sees Joe Lee and Melinda with Tommy around the dog fighting ring. Sam confronts Joe Lee and Melinda about subjecting Tommy to the ring and demands that Tommy stays with him. After a while, Tommy finally agrees to go with Sam, which greatly upsets Melinda and Joe Lee, who vow to get their son back from Sam.
Jason ponders a way to obtain more information about Crystal when Hoyt makes the suggestion to talk to the drug dealer that Jason put in jail. Jason thinks that this idea is fantastic and prepares to visit the jail when Hoyt’s “friend” Summer comes to the house. She confesses to Hoyt that she would like to be his girlfriend. Hoyt does not give her a response, but allows her to “spruce” his home. Jason travels to the jail and tries to persuade the drug dealer for information about Crystal, who happened to be the dealer’s cousin. The dealer tells Jason that he will tell him everything that he wants to know as long as Jason brings him some meth.
Queen Sophie Anne, who is locked in a cage, is visited by Eric and Sophie’s human Hadley. Eric threatens Sophie Anne by telling her that if she does not tell him more about her interest in Sookie, then he will drain Hadley of every last drop of blood. Sophie Anne refuses to talk, which causes Eric to bite Hadley and frantically begin drinking her blood. Gasping for breath, Hadley tells Eric that she will tell him the secret that Sophie Anne confided to her. Sophie Anne orders her not to speak, but Hadley leans in and whispers a secret in Eric’s ear, a secret that takes Eric by surprise…
