Looking for ways to help homeless animals, but you already have a house full of furry rescues? Well, you do know how to shop, right? Or maybe it’s time to clean your closets and donate items? Then you can be a hero to animals in need of emergency medical care at Tri County Humane Society by visiting their thrift shop!
The Tri County Humane Society and its thrift shop are both located in Boca Raton, but at separate locations. 100% of the proceeds from the shop support the emergency medical fund for animals at the no-kill shelter which takes in the injured, abused, neglected and homeless on a daily basis.
On any given day at the TCHS Thrift Shop you may find amazing bargains on high-end, gently used items. True Religion jeans that originally sold for $175 were recently purchased at the shop for just $50. Ferragamo handbags, Stuart Weitzman shoes, Yves Saint Laurent clothing, Lucky Brand and Abercrombie and Fitch items have all passed through the shop’s doors and into some happy shoppers’ bags.
The TCHS Thrift Shop is run mostly by volunteers, some of whom donate their time up to 5 days a week. Tri County Humane Society Director Jeannette Christos says, “The volunteers are so dedicated and it’s so important that people shop and donate to keep the thrift shop doors open. Donations to our shelter are down 70% and owner surrenders and strays coming in are up 30% with this economy, so the funds generated by the shop are vital for medical treatments for our animals”.
Store Manager Susan Merkel says that prices are negotiable (how fun!) and donations to the thrift shop are always greatly appreciated, and can be received during any hours the shop is open, Tuesdays – Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Best items to donate:
- Costume jewelry
- Serving bowls and dishes
- Small furniture (small tables, curios, shelves)
Store staff is not equipped to provide pick up, but occasionally can do so. The thrift shop is located on the east side of Federal Highway at 2980 North Federal in Boca Raton, in the Blum’s Plaza. (561) 338-4770. Please donate, and shop ’till you drop, to save lives! What could be easier?
