On Saturday, Poor Little Rich Girl hosted the launch of 442 McAdam’s Fall/Winter handbag collection. The cute little boutique is every girly girl’s fantasy, specializing in party dresses, flirty tops, and short skirts from an array of appealing designers including BCBG, Kenzie, Betsey Johnson, and Nicole Miller.
Sarah Shell’s latest handbag collection for her label 442 McAdam represents an evolution toward something sexier and edgier as well as smaller and mid-sized rather than larger and over-sized as we’ve seen in previous collections. The manufacturer also works with a designer in Rome, so there is a definite Italian feel to the craftsmanship even though they are produced here in Ontario.
The “crown jewel” of the collection, according to Sarah, is Chappy–a hand-pleated diva with metallic embellishment which can be carried by shoulder strap or shorter gold chain. The purse is named after a lyric in a Ratpack song which Sarah chose for its vintage connotation and because she likes the group which featured Frank Sinatra.
The Marsha bag is named after Sarah’s grandmother. In fact, her grandparents appear front and centre in the company logo, their Winnipeg residence of the last 54 years being the company’s name. When a customer asked if they were worried Sarah’s label might bring undue attention to their home, the designer replied, “They’re hoping it will!”
