Tom Cable’s refrain since he took over as head coach has been to “Play the right way.” That is something that he is seeing from his team despite some of the issues in the offense. He sees the seeds that he planted coming to fruition.
There have been questions about the play of the offensive line. However, Cable has been quick to point out that there was only one drive where there was significant pressure on the quarterback. He summed up the play of the offensive line, “I am encouraged, but as we talked about after the game, we need to get going a little quicker and sustain some drives. Third down was really the biggest negative out of that football game. There was some good things in terms of protection. I thought in the second half running the ball with some efficiency. But I’d like to see us get started just a little bit quicker.”
He is not showering the unit with undue praise, but he sees the signs that they are coming together and are going to be able to do their jobs. He expects that Mario Henderson is going to improve on is 2009 season. “He’s made some improvements here this week and kind of coming off the Dallas game. I’m kind of excited, and I think he will be able to match up with Peppers a little bit in the game.”
His key to overall success is, “We’re working together as an organization and a football team, supporting each other the right way. Everything is moving the direction it should be.”
Having the final 53 guys on the same page would definitely make 2010 a singularity among recent years. That has been Cables top priority since he became head coach in 2008.
Answers from Twitter questions:
Are the recent struggles on o just small things to be fixed, or problems that we should expect to see during the season.?
I think that most of the struggles on offense have been the function of the injuries/soreness at the wide receiver position. Its going to be hard to built the consistency with all three of the key wide receivers having missed chunks of time. I think with time to gel, there will be improvement. The offense is still a work in progress on a very young team.
looks like colt is getting reps do you think he will get some playing time vs Chicago?
That depends on the rotation that Coach Cable decides to go with. If Gradkowski is still limited, it is quite likely Colt Brennan will get some field time. Charlie Frye is definitely out, and I don’t see him going with only a two man quarterback rotation. Brennan has had a bit more time to be acclimated to the system, so it is fairly likely that he will see snaps against the Chicago Bears.
can you find out for sure namdi is going to shadow the others team best wide receiver?
There is no way that Coach Cable is going to give a straight answer to that one. That is something that I expect will be deployed strategically as game situations evolve.
