July 20 was the day in history when…
2005: Canada became the fourth country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage. It was previously recognized in eight of ten provinces within the country, and 3,000 same-sex couples had already been married in those regions. A law passed in 1999 that granted benefits equal to those of heterosexual couples. The act, called the Civil Marriage Act, passed in the House of Commons in June, 2005 and passed the Senate on July 19, 2005. It received the Royal Assent on July 20, 2005.
1991: Kirk Cameron married Chelsea Noble. The two met on the set of Growing Pains where Cameron played “Mike Seaver” and Noble played Mike’s on screen girlfriend “Kate McDonald”. The two fell in love off screen and were married. They adopted four children and then had two more biological children, for a total of six kids. In Hollywood, a place where people change partners like socks, this couple seems to have endured.

1976: U.S. Viking 1 achieves the first Mars landing. Touching down at the Chryse Planitia, the probe began sending images back to Earth within minutes of landing, giving the United States close up images of Mars.
1969: The United States put the first men on the moon. Apollo 11 landed in the Sea of Tranquility and spent 21 hours and 31 minutes on the surface. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon.
