“Those who know Your name will trust in You, for You, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek You.” (Psalm 9:10)
When we deal with hardships in life we tend to fall back on what we feel is reality rather than what is reality. Reality is that, for those who seek (to go in search or quest of) God, He will never forsake (abandon) them. Emotions tend to tell us that we are alone, that everything will continue to spiral downward with no hope of returning, that we are broken beyond repair, etc.
Trust must be put into God. We cannot live in response to our situations and life-dealings, but rather, in response to who God is. We put our trust in Him, and though the ground my shake, our feet stand firm. We stand firm on the Rock of our lives, the Chief Cornerstone. Our lives are built on Him, and no matter what we face in this temporary life on earth, we are secure because of who He is.
Know His name. According to dictionary.com, “know” means, to perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty; to have fixed in mind or memory; to understand from experience.
There are many names of God, each revealing part of His character. When we know His character, we can be secure in Him and His care for us. He is true to His name. We will begin to scratch the surface of studying who He is.
“The Rock of My Salvation”
“The Lord liveth; and blessed be my rock; and exalted be the God of the rock of my salvation.” (2 Samuel 22:47)
We are redeemed and the foundation of our lives is built on Christ. He is faithful to save!
“For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. I will bring them out from the nations and gather them from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land. I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in all the settlements in the land. I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain heights of Israel will be their grazing land. There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak, but the sleek and the strong I will destroy. I will shepherd the flock with justice.” (Ezekiel 34:11-16)
God will tend to, guard, protect, guide, and watch over His people.
“Prince of Peace”
“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
He brings forth marvelous works and stirs up wonder and amazement. He gives instruction and never leaves us to walk the journey alone. His power and strength is unfailing. He is the secure and eternal Father. He brings peace in all and to all.
This is only scratching the surface. Seek God, know His character, know Him. Shatter the idea of who you think He is and let truth of who He is resound. When you find out the depths (the unending depths) of who He is, you will not be disappointed. There is always more of Him to experience!
Live your life in response to who He is.
