You might recall the true story of a child, Chelsea, who was healed after a visit by an angel. She was in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Presbyterian’s Pediatric Cancer center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The security camera in the hall just outside the child’s hospital door caught an inexplicable bright light and image of what most people say is an angel (with wings). Chelsea, almost 15 years old at the time, had a severe bout with pneumonia and had been on a ventilator for two months. The doctors had done all they could for her and her mother, Colleen Banton, had to make the heartbreaking decision to take her off life support. She began praying. The mother of another young patient who was in the bed next to her began praying with her. Doctors as well as nurses and passers by saw the bright light in the hall. Hopefully you will be able to see the angel’s image on the links provided. This is an awesome story of healing. The girl was later discharged from the hospital to go home.
Another touching story of an angel, but this time without wings, is by Shelley. She is visually impaired and found herself in a rainy day predicament. She has some sight, but on this rainy, dark day she wasn’t seeing all that good. Shelley was trying to get to the pharmacy where she turned in and paid her utility bill but got disoriented. She was almost mowed down by a car and stopped to pray. She was confused and on the verge of tears. Almost immediately, her angel appeared. He was a normal-looking man wearing a blue raincoat and a blue baseball cap. He rescued her and guided her to her destination. Although Shelley was soaked with the rain, the man was surprisingly dry.
As she let go of his arm and turned to thank him, no one was there, just the rain. There were no footsteps leading away, not even a shadow. Shelley stood there for awhile trying to comprehend what happened. With tears in her eyes she realized that many times God sends very ordinary-looking angels so we don’t forget what is important – the gift of help. It is a comforting thing to believe in a God who cares so much for us he sends angels to help in times of need.
Victims of accidents often say a rescuer was at the scene, saved their lives and no one else at the scene sees them. If you are among those who are skeptical of heavenly angels. you might call those angels “friends”. Some of the believers (and non-believers) see lights. Others feel a presence.
Katherine Anne Porter, Pulitizer Prize-winning American journalist, is quoted as saying, “Miracles are instantaneous, they cannot be summoned, but come of themselves, usually at unlikely moments and to those who least expect them.”
Perhaps your “guardian angel” experiences are more earthly. There is a 100 year old parish in Kansas City, Missouri called Guardian Angels Parish. It is a Roman Catholic faith community who reaches out to help their neighbors and others. Kansas City is a very benevolent community with many organizations that reach out to the community. There are countless flesh and blood angels in Kansas city that all do good works. They are real angels to those they help.
The Bible has many accounts of angels sent by God to minister to His children. Psalm 91 reads,”…He will give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways..” And, “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.” – Psalm 34:7 Angels remind us that God really does care for us and sends His heavenly messengers to us.
In this present day world where we have to be entertained constantly and dinners and conversations around the table are few, it might not hurt any of us to just find a quiet place to listen and be still. If you have children who are bored when they aren’t texting or going somewhere, encourage them to find a quiet spot with you. Sometimes you can hear the wind, the birds, dogs, sirens, and sometimes you can feel a soft breeze brush across your face. “Be still and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10
Do not search for us, we will find you.

We are your Guardian Angels.
