Talk about an uproar. Gay Marriage what? Abortion who? The Grand Ole Party is now in a tizzy about the Ground Zero Mosque. (side note: I’m know there are Democrats against it as well, however they aren’t as loud) I’ve dubbed it the Grozque. For those not in the know, the Grozque is a Mosque that is projected to be built a mere two blocks away from the site of Ground Zero. On one side, you have the freedom of religion argument and on the other hand you have the some what logical but more emotional argument of sentiment. I don’t understand the sentimental argument. Some could say that I’m more forgiving but others would say that I don’t blame AN ENTIRE GROUP OF PEOPLE for the actions of FEW.
I mean, if the Mosque was being built on the actual site of the World Trade Center, maybe. But 2 blocks? Not even any blocks, New York Blocks. With tall buildings, lots of traffic, and tons of smokers. Why is this an issue? I mean I live in San Diego, a land that used to be inhabited by Indians. The San Diego Mission even start the mission trail up the coast. A Mission where an entire race of Indians was wiped out. There are still Indians that live around, they don’t go into tizzies because a Catholic Church is being built. They don’t really walk around calling us White Devil, Ghost Face, or whatever Hollywood tells you they say. ( I mean they might say it behind our backs) They don’t blame every white person for what one group did.
And that’s my point here today ladies and gentlemen. The people who attend this Mosque will not be a disgrace to those who died 2 blocks away. In fact I am positive that Muslims and people of the Islamic faith worked at the WTC, and they died too. They will not spit in the faces of Americans. Just because they are Islamic does not mean they AREN”T Americans. They just want to build their temple in an old Burlington Coat Factory building. And let them. The constitution gives them that right. Now, I know some are thinking that the Temple is purposely being built to be harmful and that it is in bad taste and poor judgment. But to shed some light, the area had been popular among Muslims before 9/11 even happened. Years before.
The Founders of this country weren’t born Americans and they were from all types of religions. (You could argue that most of them were a type of Christianity but you call me a Protestant and I’ll pounce!) In fact Paganism was popular of the Scandinavian Immigrants. Has anyone been to Plymouth and seen the White church and the Black church on the same street? Different religions but still sharing the same communal living. But the worse part of this all are those who are being discriminated against because of their religion. You can call me skeptical of the Islamic faith but right now I’m skeptical of our country’s judgment.
I know several people will disagree with me and I honestly would love to hear others opinions and why this upsets them so much. It’s true that people on the west coast are so far removed from 9/11 so maybe that’s a reason. Also, I am not providing a link because there were so many, all with such interesting information and views that I thought I’d let ya’ll do the research on your own. Just enter in Ground Zero Mosque or turn on any major network news.
