Sex is a wonderful thing. It brings two people closer together, and can be quite pleasurable. Of course, there are downsides to sex. No one wants to think about the negatives, but they are always there. Since women get hit with most of those negatives, they really can’t ignore them. Following are just a few things that can result from being sexually active:
- Urinary tract infections
- Yeast infections
- Unexpected/unplanned pregnancy
Using a condom will prevent most of these problems, but not all. Safe sex is always important, especially with someone you don’t know very well, but what about people in serious relationships? Usually, only the top three issues will crop up for a woman in a committed relationship, but there are ways to prevent all three of them.
Urinary tract infections are usually caused by bacteria entering the urethra. This usually happens after sexual relations, including masturbation. The best and most effective way to prevent UTI’s is to urinate immediately after any sexual activity. Urine is sterile as it leaves the body, so it will flush any substance from the urethra, thereby stopping any bacteria from worming its way into the bladder.
If you’re unlucky enough to get a UTI, be sure to go to the doctor. Over the counter medicines will not thoroughly take care of it, and these things can cause permanent damage.
Yeast infections are caused by a number of things, but they too are mostly caused by sexual intercourse. If the man is unclean, either in his genitals or hands, he can introduce bacteria into the vagina. The best way to prevent this is to make sure that he showers beforehand, or at least make sure he washes his hands.
Everyone knows how unexpected or unplanned pregnancies happen. It can be either accidentally, or the couple got caught up in the moment. Short of waiting it out and taking a pregnancy test, the best way to make sure that an abortion won’t be a consideration, there is the morning after pill. These pills must be taken within days of unprotected sex, and they will prevent pregnancy. For those women in Austin, be sure to visit Austin’s Women Health Center. They have emergency contraception that they give out over the counter without an appointment
Lastly, no one wants to catch a sexually transmitted disease, but it can even happen in committed relationships. Maybe one of the partners strayed, or he/she wasn’t aware of the disease for the first coupling. Whatever the reason, there are ways to avoid catching something unexpectedly. Of course, the best way is to use a condom until you’re sure the other person is clean. Another unorthodox way to prevent catching anything during sex is to spray hydrogen peroxide on the genitals and in the mouth soon after sex. This wonderful substance is oxygen rich and will kill disease on contact. Better yet, it’s sold everywhere and costs less than $1 a bottle.
Hopefully some of what I have imparted will help prevent unwanted conditions of sex. We all want to enjoy making love without having to worry about something awful happening.
