It’s that time of year again, when everyone wishes the temperatures would cool off already, the humidity would just stop, and the kids could finally find themselves subject to year-round schooling. Speaking of school, it’s also possible that every parent is also about to gouge their own eyes out with the sharp point of a compass at the sight of the rising cost of school supplies in this downward-spiral of an economy. Well, be eased. G.I. Joe‘s mortal nemesis, Cobra Commander (@CobraCommander), tweeted earlier today with a little insight on how you can get back at the system: “BACK 2 SCHOOL TIPS: Pencil = shiv. Padlock tied to shoelace = effective. Anthrax & chalk dust look the same.” But, please… watch out for Duke and crew.
Well, since everyone needs books… “Are bookstores doomed?” That was the highlight of a tweet today from Publisher’s Weekly (@PublishersWkly) linking to Market Watch. The article presented the factual numbers, or the lack there of if you are Borders Group, Inc. Even Barnes & Noble’s sales have dropped so low, they have put themselves up For Sale. More on the matter can be found here.
If there will be no books to read, one might as well go see a movie. Entertainment Weekly (@EW) tweeted a link to their “25 Fall Movies We Can’t Wait to See.” Films included on the list: the adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s acclaimed 2005 novel, Never Let Me Go, the Ben Affleck directed, The Town, and the claustraphobic thriller, Buried, starring Ryan Reynolds. The complete list can be found here.
A Trend Off the Top:
Tonight’s latest trend… Scott Pilgrim. It seems to be becoming a phenomenon almost as large as Justin Bieber. And, if you are like most older-than-13-folk in the world, and are not overwhelmed with Bieber Fever, I’d still highly recommend checking this link out to be a part of today’s online history-making experience.
Go Triad (@Go_Triad) was on top of their game today with a couple of their local tweets. A Prairie Home Companion‘s Garrison Keillor will be at the NC School of the Arts on November 14. More information on the show can be found here. Go Triad also tweeted: “We are giving away some great prizes for this year’s Readers’ Choice. Vote and you could win tix to @triadstage or a weekend getaway!” Make sure to visit those guys for more info.
