The start of this week’s “The Bachelorette” was something we’ve seen every season to this point — people gushing all over how much they love whoever is handing out the roses. However, then comes Frank! It is going to be interesting to see how people treat the guy following this episode.
Frank’s stomach takes a nosedive
Frank admits early on that he is in love with Ali, but that this whole experience has also brought up feelings he may still have for his ex-girlfriend Nicole. Therefore, he takes off to Chicago to see what happens next. The guy describes his stomach as if it is a ticking time bomb during the whole process, and he has to figure out exactly what he wants.
As weird as this may be for Frank, how weird is it for Nicole to be having this conversation filmed? Even without that awkward factor thrown in there, this was still one of the strangest scenes in the show’s history. Frank and Nicole really seem to care about each other, and (unlike Justin) it does not seem as over-the-top or for “the show”. Is the guy going about this the right way? Probably not, but the heart wants what the heart wants. (Sure, feel free to rip me in the comments below — but at least the guy realized it now before he made it to the final two. Ali clearly loves him.)
That said, if Frank shows up and announces at the reunion that he and Nicole have broken up, then he is going to look like the silliest man in the world.
Roberto’s passion faces its biggest challenge yet
After arriving in Tahiti, Ali’s final round of dates officially begin. We can sum up the first part of Roberto‘s date in one sentence — a heart-shaped lagoon and enough physical chemistry to make church-goers faint in the pews. The two gush about each other in confessionals as if they are melting into a lovey-dovey pool on the floor.
However, this couple still has a major issue — an emotional connection to go with the obvious physical one. Upon sitting down for dinner, this is when things get interesting … or do they? The preview made it look like there would be trouble with Roberto expressing his feelings, but that was not the case. The man got it out there! He’s gold! Who can beat Roberto? (Okay, maybe Chris.)
It’s always funny how people are surprised to get the fantasy suite key at this point, but it always happens. The two ran off to the room, and we can only assume they had a nice time together.
Chris: making the date “wicked hot”
Chris is the ultimate man’s man — he’s like the Old Spice Guy except he talks about his feelings. He has also been one of the tougher reads on the show this season, since Ali has spent a decent amount of her time this season wondering if he will ever open up enough.
The start of the date was certainly romantic enough, as the two cuddled, kissed, swam to a beach, and even found a pearl inside a clam (clue the metaphors about their relationship). It even stayed sweet following that, as Chris did his best to express how much he cared for her. Was it as poetic as Roberto pouring out his heart onto the sandy beach? No, but it got the job done and the two had their time in the fantasy suite.
Frank: enter the drama
Now, the moment that everyone was waiting for! Before the big confrontation, Frank sat down with Chris Harris to talk about how confused he was, and how he had to break Ali’s heart by telling her his feelings. Chris acted shocked by the whole ordeal, and ultimately they came to the decision that the only way they could do this would be for him to just sit down with Ali and tell her everything on the spot.
When the moment finally arrived, Frank to his credit was honest and actually shared what was on his mind. Was it heartbreaking for Ali? Yes, but it looked like it was hard on both of them. Ali was in tears, Frank tried to console her, and that was it. All in all, Frank handled himself about as well as he could considering the circumstances. (Come on Ali, Frank is not the “biggest jerk you’ve ever met”, even if it hurts now.)
Then there were two
With Frank’s departure, we have Chris and Roberto are the only two left. Ali and Chris Harris symbolically chose to have a final Rose Ceremony, just to make sure the guys were willing to “accept her”. They also needed to hear about what happened with Frank.
