We knew there was going to be a good bit of drama during Monday’s finale of “The Bachelorette”, so what better way to do that than reminding us about Justin, Frank, and Kasey? The show is going to milk these people for all they’re worth.
After a lengthy introduction, Ali Fedotowsky talks about how special she feels in Bora Bora, and also how far she has come since the beginning of this experience. Following this, we have the typical montage of the final two people. We already know that Ali’s relationship with Roberto started out with passion, and Chris‘s started out with friendship. With this in mind, you really can’t have two more different people in the final two — even though they both seem like pretty nice guys.
Before we get into the meetings with Ali’s family, it should be noted that the “Ali ends up alone” vibes begin pretty early this week. What other decision would Ali make that would really “shock” us? She’s not bringing back Frank.
Roberto was the first person to get some individual time with Ali’s parents and siblings, and the reception was immediately warm and full of laughter. Roberto told them about his initial introduction to Ali, and then we had a parade outside by random members of the family.
First, the guy had to impress Ali’s sister (who has a sneer on par with Simon Cowell). Then, Ali’s mother had just about the sweetest talk in the world about staying true to what her daughter “needs”. (Start the waterworks!)
We knew things would be far more intense once we got to the conversation with Ali’s father, and it was as he tried to talk about how much he cares about her and wants to make her happy. He asks for his blessing in the event that he proposes, and he got the coveted blessing.
Chris, meanwhile, was far more low-key in his appearance with the family. Everyone was relaxed, as they all had something in common with each other — they were all from the same state, had connections to education, and seem to all be pretty nice people.
The discussion with Ali’s father was a little bit different, which was something he pointed out to her when they talked later on. Chris was more reserved, but he did ultimately ask the same question about getting her hand in marriage.
So who won with the family? It seems to be Roberto on the basis of passionate and Chris in terms of personality.
The final dates
First, we start off with Roberto. The two take off to a manta ray lagoon, which make for a romantic moment even if it’s hard not to worry about their personal safety. (Especially once it starts raining.)
The thing with Ali and Roberto is that they have great chemistry, but how great are they at actually sitting down and talking? In the midst of all the lovey-dovey stuff, we don’t always get the everyday chatter. We didn’t really during this date, either, though Roberto did give his girl a photo with a message — along with yet another proclamation.
After the lovefest with Roberto, it seemed pretty clear that he had the advantage.
Even after this, everyone still thought that Chris was at least going to get a chance at a final date. Instead, Ali showed up at his room to announce that she was in love with someone else — Roberto. This was heartbreaking, to say the least, since Chris really seemed like the greatest guy in the world. Don’t worry, Chris — maybe you’ll be the next “Bachelor”.
It was tough to watch the guy try and recover from this, since he really did seem to love her even if the feelings weren’t the same. Chris did ultimately wish her well, which is really all you could ask him to do under the circumstances.
So Ali’s picking Roberto … right?
Following this whole segment, the rest of the episode looked like it was going to be pretty predictable on the surface. If Ali wanted to be with Roberto, then this is who she would pick … or at least it seemed.
The only thing going against Ali and Roberto at this point were all of the rumors circulating about whether or not she was going to end up alone following all of this. Who do we believe — the editors or the rumors? Roberto checked out the engagement ring, but then started to act as if he was getting cold feet about the situation. (ABC probably just needed some drama here for the final few minutes.)
In the end … Roberto proposes! She says yes! Everyone’s happy! The birds are singing and there’s enchanting music of love playing! Okay, that’s enough of that — but after all of the drama this season, it’s nice that there’s a happy ending for a couple that really does seem to love each other. Plus, unlike with Jake Pavelka and Vienna, it’s not someone that the viewers will be upset over.
