Sylvester Stallone and his Expendables co-stars Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Terry Crews had a blast ringing the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange on Aug. 19, 2010.
Stallone, who still rocks a rippling physique at 64, was there with his Expendables castmates to celebrate their action film, which opened No. 1 at the box office last weekend, grossing an exuberant $35 million in three days.
‘I came to the NYSE to get a loan’
Not surprisingly, Stallone, Lundgren, 52, Statham, 38, and Crews, 42, (who took his shirt off after the bell ringing) distracted traders and analysts hard at work on the NYSE’s trading floor.
Stallone joked that he went to the NYSE to ask for a loan. “We went to the bank, they turned down our credit,” he laughed. “So we thought we’d go to the source. That’s why we’re here. Not to promote a movie. It’s to get a house loan.”
‘We want Justin Bieber for the sequel’
Meanwhile, a sequel is already being considered, with Sylvester saying he has a plot all mapped out for the second installment. So who are they eyeing to recruit for the sequel?
“Justin Bieber!” Terry Crews joked to MTV. “I want Justin Bieber!” Lundgren, meanwhile, had another suggestion. “I’d like to kill Jean-Claude Van Damme, please!” he joked.
“He’s hunting Van Damme down!” Stallone laughed. Jason Statham quipped: “I’ll be the cut man for that!”
Sly, who won three Academy Awards for the 1976 sports drama Rocky, is thrilled that he’s enjoying such incredible buzz with an action film at his age.
“I haven’t had an opening like this,” Stallone gushed. “It’s miraculous. And what sunk in finally is, in this day and age, it’s all about concept, it’s not about the actor. No one actor can open a movie anymore, so you need the help of your friends. This was a group effort. I had the biggest opening because they helped. That’s the name of the game.”
‘I feel stronger than ever’
Meanwhile, Sly, who still keeps his body fat at 4-7% (which is what elite athletes in their 20s have), continues to train as if he were decades younger. He works out three times a week in 90-minute sessions and follows a high-protein, low-carb diet.
“I really feel good–much stronger than I’ve ever felt, actually,” he says. “Something’s working.”
