The summer is far from over, yet, it has already been full of events in the Atlanta area and these include everything from somewhat rough late afternoon thunderstorms to extensive heat to music to parades and fireworks. Of course, we cannot forget a really exciting summer of baseball for the Atlanta Braves baseball team. But, one of the most beloved events in the Metropolitan Atlanta area as well as around the globe, Vacation Bible School (VBS) has definitely been the place of choice for hundreds of thousands, if not millions of children and adults worldwide.
Vacation Bible School for many churches around the Atlanta area usually begin by the first week of June and then continue throughout the summer. For one, Mount Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia had its VBS around the first week of June. It was a week long program of fun for everyone involved. Check out the earlier story on Mount Carmel’s VBS at: Vacation Bible School a Big Hit with Atlanta Children (www.dampfang.com/x-46904-Atlanta-Event-Photography-Examiner~y2010m6d9-Vacation-Bible-School-a-big-hit-with-children-across-the-Atlanta-area).
The weekend of July 10 and 11, 2010, Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia on Grayson Highway held its Vacation Bible School and it was one that centered around Biblical Egypt. It was about the story of Joseph and how his brothers sold him into slavery and then eventually how he became second in command of the entire country after the Pharaoh. The children that attended learned Egyptian dances, some great music, participated in games, movies, arts and crafts and role-playing. The VBS program was a great success. On Sunday after church services, the children and their parents had lunch and then the children got to shop in the “Egyptian Marketplace.”
The children had a great time and earned tickets toward some great items in the marketplace. They got toys and candy with their tickets. The tickets were earned in each of the venues that they attended over the day and a half program.

Over the next couple of weeks, more churches in the Atlanta area will continue to hold Vacation Bible Schools. When most of the VBS programs come to a close, this usually signals that regular school is right around the corner and before you know it, fall is not far behind.
Vacation Bible Schools held at the many churches around the Atlanta area help children learn about the Holy Bible (also correctly known as God’s Word), compete in games and sporting events, arts and crafts, role playing as well as sing and dance. The adults have a great time acting as volunteers and participating along with the children. Vacation Bible School has been a big hit for many, many years.
