There are a lot of mixed emotions in the air of the valley: with the recent news of a change in a local venue, and the continuation of one of the valleys finest bands, it is shaping up to be full of action and excitement.
Due to a tragic underage-DUI-related vehicle wreck involving an overturned SUV and a greyhound bus that left six dead on at highway 99 and the McKinley offramp, the Fresno music experience has changed indefinitely for the time being. Fresno PD has cracked down on music venues and due to many technicalities, The Starline, A favorite all-ages venue for both fan experience and band playability is now strictly age 21 and over, meaning no more of the legendary all ages shows that put the club on the map will occur for the time being. Currently the owners and managers of the club are trying to rectify the situation and hopefully sometime soon all ages shows will continue.
But on a lighter note, the valley is full of Awesome local venues that the 21 and over can easily enjoy. There are some big things happening for local bands at this time…
Grooveyard is continuing its domination of the local music scene and have recruited a new drummer in the form of local Drummer John Griffin. To see them in action performing all of your favorites be sure to go to the 6th Annual Augfest on Saturday August 21st at The Starline in Fresno, a show where being born in the month of August will get you in for free-if not, cover is a measly $6.00. Also performing that night will be Madera rockers Synezra, local metal veterans HateFX, and Fresno metallers Dislodic. So all you august born Fresno music supporters be sure to go see some great music, plus there is going to be a Tattoo giveaway, thats reason enough to go.
Also on the same night as Augfest: Euphoria has been back with a vengeance since laying down some new material and securing a solid lineup. They have recently been added to the set list of a Metal show featuring local metal bands Gristle, Infinite Aggression and Red Castle Army at The Babylon club in Fresno, the show starts at 8:30 P.M. and is for 21+ only.
And as usual be sure to check out all the local hotspots including the Crossroads bar in fresno, always featuring great local music and some great brew, Tonight(Aug 19th) Say Swear will be there and swear to put on a night full of fun times and local music. Also be sure to vote for Say Swear to play the Fresno Fair to have some Local boys there to shake things up a little.
