COLUMBIA, S.C. – July 20, 2010 – South Carolina’s jobless rate fell to 10.7%, according to a report by the Department of Employment and Workforce.
The numbers, released today, mark the fifth consecutive monthly drop in unemployment statewide. The national rate, announced earlier this month, was slightly lower at 9.5%.
The statistics show that the labor force declined by 9,618 people.
“The drop in our state’s jobless rate has been largely driven by the unemployed dropping out of the labor force,” said John L. Finan, Executive Director of the Department of Employment and Workforce in a written statement. “We still have a long way to go in increasing consumer confidence which will lead to increased demand and more job growth.”
