Are you ready to ‘strut your stuff’ during your vacation on the French Riviera? Well then, you’re in the right place!
The French Riviera boasts 120 km (75 miles) of beautiful beaches (with your choice of sand, pebbles or shingles). There are over 150 private beaches and at least 7 that are “clothing optional” (or in some cases), forbidden. And while there are many excellent family beaches, the French Riviera also offers special beaches for couples, gays and, of course, naturalists.
The best nudist beaches on the French Riviera are:
- Ile du Le Levant
- Plage du Jonquet, Seyne-sur-Mer
- Bau Rouge, Carqueiranne
- Monaco, Pradet
- Plage des Etangs des Villepey, Frejust
- Le Layet, Lavandou
- Liouquet, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer
Of these, the Plage des Etangs des Villepey – is an area that’s well worth the visit, clothing or not. The Vilepey lakes area is a protected wetlands area (so please don’t pick the daisies – or any other flowers), where over 215 bird species have been noted.
And once you’re tired of soaking up the sunshine, there are plenty of other activities to keep you entertained from sun-up to sundown… For example, you can try any of these water activities:
- scuba diving
- sea kayaking
- wind surfing
Star Spotting, anyone?
If you’re looking for something a little more star-studded, then your best bet is to head for the private beach clubs around Saint Tropez. (Although a word of advice – if you’re hitting the Riviera in the summer months, your best bet is to get to the clubs by boat. Traffic can be murder, and it’s not unusual to spend two hours or more in stop-and-go traffic jams on the only road to Saint Trop. (Trop by the way, means ‘too much’ in French and getting there by car is certainly true!)
Once you’re there, head for Club 55 on Pampelonne beach – it’s still the obvious choice. (It’s the beach Brigit Bardot made famous in “And God Created Woman” in the 1950s film.) Plenty of the rich and famous – and infamous, still enjoy letting it all hang out there.
Another place to be pampered is Pearl Beach at Saint Tropez.
Saturday Night Fever
And if you’d like to dance the day – or night away, you have to head to La Plage Marine et Blanc at Saint Raphael. (The Blue and White Beach). The party never stops with a DJ, lots of cool drinks and flashing lights and hot music.
So if you’re into ‘going natural’ you’ll fit right in at the nude beaches on the French Riviera.
