Now in its 37th year, the 2010 SIGGRAPH conference will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from Sunday, July 25th through Thursday, July 29th. This year’s event will bring together approximately 25,000 computer graphics and interactive technology professionals for five days of educational and inspirational bliss here in Los Angeles. Cutting edge digital art and emerging technologies will be discussed, demonstrated, and awarded. Technical creative programs will include exploration of the latest technologies and will provide opportunities for hands-on creative collaboration with industry leaders.
There will be two keynote speakers. Keynote speaker Don Marinelli, the Executive Producer of Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center, will speak on Monday, July 26th at the ACM Award Presentations. Keynote speaker Jim Morris, the General Manager and Executive VP of Production at Pixar Animation Studios, will present on Tuesday, July 27th. Morris serves as production executive on several of Pixar’s most successful films, including the Oscar-winning animated film “WALL-E.”
The five day international Computer Animation Festival features innovative digital animation and visual effects “celebrating the people behind the pixels.” This festival will hold screenings of a variety of genres and styles. The festival will showcase the most outstanding achievements in time-based art, scientific visualization, visual effects, real-time graphics, and narrative shorts. Furthermore, digital film creators will offer talks, clinics, and live real-time demonstrations.
Another element of the conference, The Studio, includes exciting digital artistry workshops coordinated by the sensational Stephen Burns. Sessions will explore digital painting, photo enhancement, three dimensional painting, digital storyboarding, and more. These sessions will incorporate the latest technologies in this hands-on collaborative environment.
From July 27th through July 29th, conference attendees will also enjoy the opportunity to experience a unique exhibition, where commercial vendors will offer opportunities to explore new software, hardware, and services. This exhibition will include hundreds of international companies from the computer graphics and interactive marketplace.
