The U.S. Government has decided to send Feisal Abdul Raul, the Ground Zero Imam from the Cordoba Initiative, to three other countries (Bahrain, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates) on behalf of the United States in order to promote religious tolerance à la Islam at a cost of approximately $16,000. This includes $3000 to the Imam for his work. Quite a bargain for anything the U.S. Government decides to spend tax-payer money on these days; however, does it make any sense for our Government to do this? Before you vote in the poll below, let us consider this interesting turn of events.
The Cordoba Initiative has recently been a hot-topic in the media because individuals from all political persuasions, including Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, are opposed to building the Cordoba House Mosque so close to Ground Zero – the site of the 9/11 attacks. Even Obama had to backtrack this past weekend on the “wisdom” of building a mosque just 2 blocks away from the site of the former twin towers. So if you are going to send a Muslim on behalf of the United States, why send this guy?
The two-week tour is obviously a blatant attempt by the U.S. Government to engage in the politics of religion. If we are supposed to believe in the progression of seperation of church and state, where the Government does not endorse or promote any one religion, then why use Government funds from U.S. taxpayers to endorse and promote Islam? Try to imagine the U.S. Government spending $16,000 to send Joel Osteen to the U.K. in order to promote religious tolerance. Or Dallas pastor T.D. Jakes to Africa. Or Fort Worth pastor Kenneth Hagin to Germany.
The Associated Press reports that P.J. Crowley of the U.S. State Department says the Imam is “expected to discuss Muslim life in America and promote religious tolerance. He will not be allowed to raise funds for the mosque on the trip.”
Imam Feisal gets an incredible opportunity for exposure, an open mic to preach to a captive audience, an all expenses paid trip courtesy of you and me, $3000 spending money, plus all the emails and phone numbers he can collect from those who would love to see a victory mosque in New York City.
By the way, this is the Imam’s fourth trip sponsed by the U.S. Government. He traveled twice to the Middle East in 2007 courtesy of the Bush administration and one time earlier this year under Obama’s reign. The second leg of his 2010 tour starts today, Thursday Aug. 19, and runs through Thursday, September 2nd.
