Piers Morgan and Howie Mandell were both trumped by fellow judge Sharon Osbourne on America’s Got Talent. During the wild card show, each judge was able to pick four acts that they wanted to see again. More of Sharon Osbourne’s acts went through to the semi-finals than those of Howie Mandell and Piers Morgan. Is Osbourne more in tune with what America wants to see on America’s Got Talent?
Sharon Osbourne picked magician Rudi Macaggi, aerialists Michael Lipari and Ashleigh Dejon, illusionist Michael Grasso and dancers RNG as her wild card choices. Two of her chosen acts made it through to the semi-finals: Illusionist Michael Grasso and the aerialists. With a 50% success rate, Osbourne trumped Piers Morgan and Howie Mandell.
Piers Morgan chose young ballroom dancers Anna and Patryk, comedian Doogie Horner, Indian dance troupe Kruti Dance Academy and Harmonica Pierre as his wild card picks. Only Anna and Patryk made it through to the semi-finals, giving him a 25% success rate. He fought hard to put through Harmonica Pierre calling him “brilliantly talented,” but in the end Howie and Sharon put through aerialists Michael and Ashleigh instead. For someone who claims to be able to spot talent like none other, Piers Morgan had a bit of egg on his face after the wild card round.
Howie Mandell brought back kite flyer Connor Doran, the Hot Shot Tap Dancers, rapper CJ Dippa and Swing Shift Side Show for wild card night. In the end, only one of his acts advanced to the semi-finals: Connor Doran. Like a proud parent, Howie told Doran about his win, “I’m so proud of you. I can’t wait to see you next week.” Howie’s success rate during wild card night: 25%.
Piers Morgan often cuts down both Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandell, saying that neither of them is capable of spotting talent. So, who had the last laugh during wild card night? Sharon Osbourne! Don’t you know that this bugs Piers Morgan to no end? That in itself has entertainment value, don’t you think?
Next week, the 24 semi-finalists begin to compete in earnest for their shot at $1 million dollars and a headline act at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. So, which acts do you think have the best shot at winning it all? Be sure to leave your thoughts and comments below.
America’s Got Talent airs at 9/8c on Tuesdays on NBC, followed by a results show on Wednesdays.
