Savvy Cellar Wines, a popular mid-peninsula institution, recently pulled up stakes from Redwood City and moved to a revitalized downtown Mountain View, much to the delight of wine lovers in the Silicon Valley. As an associate member of the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Association, their new location places them closer to other members of the appellation, providing a rich source of wine values, education, and value.
Savvy Cellar Wines awarded Best Wine Classes in the SF Bay Area (SFGate Bayist)
Jennifer Ayre, Founder and President of Savvy Cellar Wines, is a Certified Specialist of Wine and a Certified Sommelier as designated by the Master Court of Sommeliers. A natural born teacher, she is often called Savvy Cellar’s CBW – Chief Bottle Washer. She’s also a very talented a jazz singer.
When Jennifer was recently asked about her classes, she commented, “As a Sommelier, part of my calling is to break wine into its component parts based on sight, smell, taste and my understanding of geography, grape varietals and regional winemaking styles. And while I can have dramatic impact on how a wine is presented, described, paired and ultimately enjoyed, the winemaker is really King (or Queen) in the mix.”
Wines of style, quality, distinction and affordability
Another unique feature of this newly located wine purveyor is the selection of wines for tasting and sales. Their focus is on wines that have achieved a 90+ point rating and can be purchased for $39 or less. Jennifer’s keen palate will often lead her to offer a wine in the shop for $39 that would normally command a much higher price.
This is in keeping with an established reputation that hints of Jennifer’s entrepreneurial spirit, academic accomplishment, passionate personality and humorous soulful manner. As quoted on the Savvy Cellar web site, “The result is a business that combines the mysteries of wine drinking with the practical concerns of good scores, high quality and solid bargains.”
