Just two weeks after opening, Santa Monica Place now boasts comparable shopping to The Grove and The Beverly Center. Set across from 3rd Street Promenade, SMP features dreamy designers like Michael Kors, Juicy Couture, BCBG, Barney’s CO-OP and Burberry Brit, but the golden apple of the three-story outdoor luxury shopping center is its anchor store, Bloomingdale’s.
For those intimidated by high-end department stores, take comfort that this isn’t your typical Bloomie’s. The Santa Monica location is a concept store meaning the merchandise has been hand selected to fit the community. True to west coast style, the floor is merchandised with beachy casual looks and dedicated sections for surf brands. Artwork by local artists and TVs looping videos of the ocean adorn the walls. There’s even a mural of Santa Monica Pier on the first floor.
Smaller than the average Bloomie’s, the concept store only features a men’s, women’s and accessories department – albeit a glorious, ah-maz-ing accessories department. The 10 foot backlit sunglasses wall is a true shopping spectacle. Gucci, Prada, Kate Spade, Marc Jacobs and other designer sunnies are well within reach and ready to try on without assistance.
The upstairs is dedicated solely to the women’s department and features the b-Style bar where personal shoppers are waiting to dress you from head to toe. Try on clothes in a beach shack dressing room or the futuristic dressing pods (they look like giant Chinese lanterns) that lower from the ceiling. Seriously. Forty Carrots centers the department offering frozen yogurt and other low fat goodies perfect for a quick shopping endurance boost.
The Santa Monica Place Bloomingdale’s is hosting multitudes of events to celebrate the grand opening. Check out the full list here.
