Thanks to the good people over at Survivor Sucks, the rumors concerning the next two installments of “Survivor” are already starting to boil over.
(Warning: the following includes some potential spoilers. While there will never be any boot spoilers posted on this site, the follow information does pertain to casting.)
The first rumor has to do specifically with former NFL coach Jimmy Johnson, who is reportedly among the cast for “Survivor: Nicaragua” after having tried out for a number of seasons in the past. Medical issues have been a problem for the 67-year old, but he is a major fan of the game.
Perhaps more surprising than this, though, is the talk that season 22 (which would air this spring) may possibly be a “Rob vs. Russell” season — something teased about at the “Heroes vs. Villains” finale. The concept would be simple enough — have each person lead a tribe and see what happens. However, there are still some many issues with this idea. What if Rob and Russell are voted out early? Are you sticking them with other “All-Stars” or rookies to the game? Does this eliminate the “Second Chance” idea that many people want?
One of the other issues is simply what Russell told me following the last reunion — he has no interest in the idea since he’s already beaten Rob. Unless CBS is doing something to make this season worth Russell’s while, it’s hard to see why he’s come back unless he just missed the fame.
In terms of overall analysis, Jimmy Johnson seems like a great idea while “Rob vs. Russell” could end up killing the show altogether if it happens. We have already seen Rob three times, and this would be the third appearance in four seasons for Russell. Even if he wins Fan Favorite all the time, that does not mean that everyone is a fan.
