Last year I did my first figure competition and enjoyed it so much I decided to do two more during the 2010 season. With plans of doing a show I decided to be efficient when it came to every detail of my contest prep. This time around my plans are to make sure the day runs smoothly and one of the biggest lessons I learned was the importance of food prep and timing my meals. Timing is so important while dieting that I learned to be prepared at all times and purchase enough storage containers to hold at least two or three days worth of meals and large storage containers for items like fresh produce and poultry. I finally made up my mind with the Rubbermaid Premier storage containers. Here is my review of the product.
These containers come in multiple sizes starting at 1.25, 2,0, 3.0, 5.0, 9.0, and 14 cup amounts and can be found in value packs, divided containers and in sets. Initially I purchased the sixteen piece set and decided I would work with these to see if I liked them before buying any more. To my surprise even the small containers work well while the largest size can hold a whole cauliflower and a couple of broccoli crowns.
One of the descriptions for the Premier containers is each container nests into the other and the lids snap-on to the bottom of the container so it won’t get lost. This is one of the best features of the container. All of the lids snap to each other so they are easily stackable from the top or bottom and take up very little space, as well as, there aren’t a hundred lids piled up into a big jumbled mess in the cabinet. One of my biggest pet peeves is trying to find a matching lid and container and over time I’ve wasted a lot of money because the lids didn’t match the containers and I had to throw them away.
The prices range from $19.99 and up for boxed sets of twelve which I do find to be a bit steep for food containers; especially if you need far more than two or three. Singles can be found in stores but are more costly when bought separately. A three cup container and lid is nearly $4 at Wal-Mart which I have found to have the lowest prices.
Are they worth it?
Although the Rubbermaid Premier storage containers have a higher price point they’re worth every cent. The ease of stacking and space saving makes is worth it alone. The lids are interchangeable for certain containers and they don’t stain or carry an odor like some food containers after having them for a length time. My first purchase of a boxed set was over a year and a half ago and has proved to be sturdy, stain free and storage friendly. Each container snaps into the one below it so it stays in place without falling over and leaking. I have found using these containers not only made my refrigerator more organized but created more space for other items. This is one of those times spending a little more was really worth it.
