Having reviewed every season of this show I’ve become quite well versed in the Betty universe of characters, plots, and general silliness that ensues on a regular basis in the halls of Mode magazine. Along the way of course every fan becomes endeared to the message of Betty; which is mostly about not judging people and being an individual. A wonderful message and one I was happy to see throughout the first three seasons. However something went wrong on the way to the finish line.
While most of this season felt right about on track there were a few missteps and before a recovery could be made a mad rush to cross the finish line kicked in and made things a bit more messy than usual.
Not to say this season is bad or that die hard fans won’t enjoy it; this just feels like the lesser of what came before it. By the end of the show Betty has gotten a make over of sorts, the braces are gone and her outfits are far less wild and fun and more like everyone else in the office. Not a major complaint but it does sort of wreck the message. Mind you I’m Still not sure why they call this show “Ugly” Betty…even with all the braces and goofy wardrobe she’s still cute….that’s TV for ya I guess.
Overall the ending felt forced and rushed with a finale that feels like a cliffhanger or pilot to a new spin off show. All in all they went out when the time was right and didn’t drag things out past its prime and that’s something to appreciate and revisit.
