Living the Dream is a fast-paced short story about a failed kidnapping attempt. The main character Kurt is a loser with a serious chip on his shoulder who’s been having troubling dreams lately. When he spots a recent photograph of Vicky, the woman who had him sent to jail years ago, he decides to head south to Florida to find her.
Once there, Kurt attempts a half-baked kidnapping scheme to get a little cash and a little vengeance on Vicky. Danny is a deep sea diver who has everything he needs in life but a soul mate. Lately he’s been having strange dreams about a beautiful mystery woman. Vicky is an attractive and serious-minded wife who plans to divorce her unfaithful husband. Meanwhile, her husband Jimmy, a wealthy business man with no scruples, is planning his own escape from it all, even his hot mistress Leslie. When Leslie and Kurt cross paths, she convinces him to let her in on his kidnapping scheme. Suddenly Kurt finds himself a bit over his head, and if he survives, it will be a miracle.
Living the Dream is both humorous and action packed. All of the characters in this novel have a plan and a few dreams. As their lives begin to intersect, they find out that dreams really can come true, for better or for worse.
Excerpt: Looking at the shadowy reflection in the mirror it struck him how much he had changed physically. The thick red hair that had once adorned his head was disappearing rapidly, and what was left was slowly turning gray. His pale blue eyes looked tired, his once handsome face was sagging, and the athletic build of his youth now showed the effects of a sedentary lifestyle.
About the author: Tim Baker was born and raised in Warwick, Rhode Island.
After graduating from The Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1980 he embarked on a career in Architecture and Engineering. Along the way he has also worked in the natural gas industry, construction and ice cream sales.
In his spare time he enjoys a wide variety of activities including sports of all kinds, music, photography, model building and, of course, writing.
An avid dog lover, Tim was a volunteer puppy raiser for Guiding Eyes for the Blind, raising and socializing potential guide dogs.
He has also studied and taught martial arts.
Inspired by his interest in Karma and the unexplained forces of the universe, he made his first serious attempt at writing in 1988 when he began a novel entitled Full Circle, a story about the far reaching effects that one man’s actions can have on people he has never even met.
Unfortunately without the use of a computer or even a typewriter he shelved the project due to the difficulties of trying to construct a novel completely by hand. He has resumed work on Full Circle and expects to finish it in the near future.
Currently, Tim is enjoying life in Palm Coast, Florida.
