If you were looking for a strong and entertaining Monday Night RAW heading into this Sunday’s Money in the Bank PPV, you found it Monday evening in Lexington, Ky.
While Edge and Randy Orton, two of the participants in the Money in the Bank match up squared off Monday, the night ended with fireworks from John Cena and six members of The Nexus.
As the match had been made last week by RAW’s mystery GM, Cena was to face The Nexus in a 7-on-1 handicap match. With Darren Young injured at the hands of Cena last week, it then became a 6-on-1 this week.
Not to many people’s surprise, The Nexus eventually wore down Cena, but not before the former champ put up one heck of a fight.
After pinning Cena, The Nexus looked to do some more damage, but Cena managed to get his hands on a chair and fend off the animals, be it only for a few moments.
As their custom to surround the ring and move in for the kill, The Nexus got a surprise visit from current WWE champion Sheamus, who they had tried to push around earlier in the evening.
Even though Cena and Sheamus will battle in a steel cage this Sunday in Kansas City for the title, on this evening, the two were united against The Nexus.
Will The Nexus try and interfere this Sunday in the championship match even though it is shrouded in steel? Stay tuned.
In the night’s other matches:
Edge def. Randy Orton (Even though Edge got the win via a distraction from Chris Jericho, who came down the ring to distract Orton, Edge took a Codebreaker from his fellow Canadian. Only seconds later, Jericho was hit by one of Orton’s RKOs. Money in the Bank participant Evan Bourne then joined the fray. After hitting The Viper with a kick to the head, Bourne went for a Shooting Star Press, only to be nailed as he prepared to touch ground by another Orton RKO;
The Usos & Tamina def. Unified Tag Team Champions The Hart Dynasty & Natalya;
Divas Champion Alicia Fox def. Gail Kim – As a result of faking an injury in her title match up with Eve Torres last Monday night, Fox was ordered to defend the title again versus Torres this Sunday at Money in the Bank.
With Florence Henderson (Carol Brady) serving as RAW guest host, an 8-man tag team match was set up between Team Regal (William Regal, Zack Ryder, Primo and Doink the Clown) and Team Santino (Santino Marella, Goldust, The Great Khali and Vladimir Kozlov – The match ended with The Great Khali nailing Doink for the 1-2-3.
Afterwards, The Great Khali and “Carol Brady” engaged in a lip lock for several seconds, perhaps rekindling memories of the reported real life encounter years ago of Henderson and Barry Williams (Greg Brady).
Overall, a very entertaining MNR, and looking forward to Sunday’s Pay-Per-View live from Kansas City.
