On August 29th Santa Monica’s Big Blue Bus riders will be paying more money to get to their destinations. The decision was introduced in a press release by the City of Santa Monica on August 17th giving passengers less than two weeks to prepare. Most pay-as-you-go riders will be facing a 25 cent rate hike, the first of its kind for senior/disabled/Medicare riders in 25 years. And it is only the 2nd rate hike for regular riders and students in the same period. In addition to the rate hikes, BBB has also introduced two new “value added” plans, the 13 ride pass (13 rides for the price of 12) and the 30-day pass.
From the Press Release:
SANTA MONICA, Calif. – The Big Blue Bus is set to unveil its new fare structure beginning August 29, which will include new cash fares and transfer prices along with the introduction of two new types of value-added passes. In addition, a new online store will be launched August 17, giving customers the ability to purchase transit passes on-line.
The two new value-added passes being introduced include the 13 Rides Pass and the 30 Day Pass. Both passes came about as a result of discussions held earlier this year at community meetings throughout the Big Blue Bus service area.
The new 30 Day Pass fits the bill for riders who want the ability to ride an unlimited number of times during a 30-day time period. The 30 Day Pass is a pre-purchased card that can be activated at any time and is available as a 30 Day Local Pass for riders who only ride the Local service, or as a 30 Day Express Pass, which includes entry to all Local lines and the Line 10 Express bus connecting downtown Santa Monica with downtown Los Angles. Reduced rate versions of these passes are available for students and senior/disabled/Medicare passengers.
