It’s that time again, time for waking up early, homework and school lunches. If the thought of another drab school year isn’t exactly exciting to you and the thought of spending extra money on activities doesn’t excite your wallet then this is the article for you. After scouring the SW Denver area for family friendly and budget friendly activities to brighten up your school year this list is the end result.
SW Denver has a multitude of great activities for all age and skill levels however price wise we all realize these activities aren’t always a reality. Here is some advice on choosing an activity for the child in your life as well as the family as a whole.
First asses any activities your family currently participates in. Pick a time when you can have about 15min to yourself, this is the type of activity we don’t want to start and not finish. Make enough columns for each member in the household with their name on it. Next write in their column each activity your family members do. If the activity costs you money writes down how much next to it. Now go down the list person by person. Is someone’s list all work and no play? Maybe someone has so many activities it takes away from someone else.
The hard part is done all that is left are the numbers and the family time. Make a box on the bottom and write down your budget for these activities, underneath that write down what your actual cost is. Again very importantly be honest, if you are just getting by with the cost of the activities then the budget should be lower than the cost. Call a family meeting and tell yourself “I am in charge we all want things we can’t have” hopefully you realize some of these activities may not be feasible.
For the meeting have some great ideas that your family may like such as Karate which is one of the only activities a family can do together as opposed from it being age specific and not being able to participate together.
If your child has been doing an activity for a long time they may be hesitant to stop it but as we grow as people we tend to grow out of our old hobbies and likes. If your daughter used to do dance and it doesn’t seem like her heart is there consider rhythmic gymnastics it incorporates dance and gymnastics. This gives you two likes for the price of one and you are closer to meeting your budget.
Over the course of the next few days check back often to see articles on local businesses in the area that are budget friendly and family friendly. They include interviews with employees and customers and will help making your after school activity search in SW Denver easier.
