Finally the time has come to get back to school after a long relaxing vacation. Minds are fresh and with full energy the children are back to their second home ‘School’. Teachers are ready to welcome these little ones with a fresh morning smile and surely with something new for them. In other words let the first class of the new academic session be interesting and memorable at the same time. So why not chose a topic which might involve a small activity like a game probably through which children can remember this topic very well. Let’s try it out teachers:
A difficult topic like Prepositions can be chosen in an English Class and this activity can be used to make it easy and interesting for the children.
Firstly there is a need to divide the children into two small groups depending upon the strength. Then one child from the first group is made the den and is requested to wait outside the classroom until called inside. No sooner the child goes out than the teacher chooses another child from the second group and asks that child to hide a particular thing somewhere inside the classroom. The child does so while the others are instructed to give hints to the den and help him find that hidden article.
While the children energize themselves for the game to begin the teachers chalks out the chart on the board under the heading Prepositions. Now the den is called and the game begins. Each group gets a chance to direct the den using phrases and words like ‘beside’ , ‘across’, ‘before’, ‘at’ and many more. As the children pronounce these words the teacher makes a list on the blackboard. Finally when the den is slowly taken to the hidden point he finds that thing and everybody claps as he is the winner and has been successful to find out the hidden object.
After the game gets over immediately the teacher diverts the attention of the children towards the board where the list is ready. The children repeat the words after the teacher and hence the words are drilled inside their minds which they will remember forever. Then the teacher can ask the children to frame short and clear sentences with these words.
- The Response
The response will definitely be overwhelming as the children will not only be eager to answer but also be eager to construct sentences keeping the game they have just played in mind. They will understand the meaning of preposition even without the teacher defining the term itself.
This type of simple activity will help the children to not only improve their speaking skills but also listening skills where the child listened and picks up the words used as prepositions.
There are so many such activities that can be used while teaching a bit difficult topic or even while making reading as interesting as possible.Such activities can be searched on this link as followed
So let’s start this new academic year with an innovation of making play and learn possible together at the same time and with a hope to have the children wanting for more.
