If you’re feeling the need for a quick get-away, but require a little motivation – let the music move you! Atlanta has three great musical events planned for the weekend of August 20-22 – that’s three great reasons to throw a couple of suitcases in the car and hit the road for a quick and scenic road trip.
- Georgia Bluesfest 2010: Hosted at R Ranch in the Mountains at Dahlonega on Saturday, August 21, Georgia Bluesfest 2010 promises its attendees “the blues and nothing but the blues” all day long. Bands like Fat Momma Band, Reverb-O-Rockets and Men in Blues will be heating up the stage earlier that afternoon, and headliners Johnny White and James Cotton take the stage around 9 p.m. Accommodations in and around Dahlonega include a slew of campgrounds, a few national brand hotels, bed-and-breakfast inns and the historic Smith House Inn. The site of the United States first gold rush, plan to spend your Sunday panning for gold and strolling through the distinctive shops of Dahlonega’s quaint downtown area, or enjoy hiking, fishing and canoeing in nearby Chattahoochee National Forest. - Legends at the Lake Summer Concert Series Season Finale: Calling all Parrotheads! Lake Lanier Islands Resort invites you to join them for the final installment of their popular summer concert series when their Grand Hall is transformed to Margaritaville for a three-hour performance by A1A: The Official and Original Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band on Saturday, August 21. You’ll be boogying in the aisles to an anthology of “Songs You Know By Heart” by local musician Jeff Pike and his six-piece group – the only tribute band personally sanctioned by Jimmy Buffett himself. After the concert’s over, kick off your dancing shoes and retire to luxury accommodations at the Resort’s Legacy Lodge. Sunday can be filled with even more fun as you spend the day splashing at Chattahoochee Rapids Beach & WaterPark, riding horses from the Equestrian Center, aboard a rental boat from Harbor Landings, or relaxing at Tranquility – The Spa. Purchase your tickets online or call the Resort’s Customer Service at 1-800-840-LAKE to learn more about their concert packages.
- Music Legend Donna Summer at Chastain Park Amphitheatre: Perhaps the BEST place for an al fresco date night in all of Atlanta, Chastain Park comes alive with the feel good music of Disco Dance Diva, Donna Summer on Sunday, August 22. Make plans to stay at any one of Buckhead’s fine hotels – such as The Westin on Peachtree or The Ritz Carlton/Buckhead – then shop, wine and dine your way through Saturday at some of the most upscale shops and eclectic restaurants Atlanta has to offer. Sleep in on Sunday, then shop, wine and dine some more before packing a picnic and heading over to Chastain that evening. Doors open at 7 p.m. and Ms. Summer takes the stage at 8 p.m.
