Now, only if these nasty gnats could look as cute as they do in the photo to the left. But as we all know these creatures can invade your home and become a nightmake. Have you ever been in a plague of gnats? Have you ever wondered where these creatures come from and why they like to annoy you? Well, if you have wondered and are currently under attack by theses creatures, then this article might help you. First of all, where do they come from? Well, believe it or not, they can come from that beautiful flower or plant arrangements that you may have purchased at your local plant nursery such as The Great Outdoors, Whole Foods, Lowes, HEB, or Home Depot. Yes, that $40 arrangement can contain gnat larvae which will eventuall infest your home. This is true of any place you may purchase any type of arrangement or plants because it is a natural occurrance in nature. To prevent an attack of gnats you must sterilize the soil. This can be done by cleaning out all the soil into a microwave safe dish. Then placing the dish into a microwave and cooking the soil for about 10minutes. You can cook it longer, whatever makes you feel is good. Imagine the time it may take to cook a piece of chicken, potato, or carrots. That is the amount of time you want the soil to cook. This will ensure that anything that is alive in the soil will be cooked to death; including gnats and their larvae. Another way to prevent gnats from entering your home is by pouring bleach down the garbage disposal and kitchen sink once every 2-3 months. This will ensure your drains stay clean and will not attract fungus gnats to come up through the pipes.

What happens if the gnats have already attacked your home? Well, then we move onto the next step. Anyone who has had to deal with these nasty creatures knows that they are almost impossible to get rid of. They seem to multiply at an incredible rate, which is true because one gnat can lay up to 300 larvae eggs in your houseplants, sink faucet, garbage disposal, or fruit you might have lying around the kitchen.
Some people spend quite a bit of money buying insect sprays, traps, and sticky paper to kill these gnats, but you really do not need to go through the trouble. A fool proof way to get rid of gnats is to use a small shotglass or jar and fill it to the brim with pure organic apple cider vinegar. I prefer to use Braggs apple cider vinegar vs. the generic brand you might find in stores because they might be watered down.

The reason this works is because for some strange reason gnats are attracted to the scent of apple cider vinegar, but when they reach in to drink the apple cider vinegar they accidentally fall in and drown (because it’s filled to the brim) and the apple cider vinegar kills them. Also, the reason I suggest you use an all organic brand of apple cider vinegar is because I have done a test with one glass full of Bragss apple cider vinegar and another glass full of generic grocery brand apple cider vinegar and the gnats all ended up in the glass full of the Braggs apple cider vinegar. If you use the generic brand, it may take a lot longer to get rid of them, so if you want it done quickly use an all organic natural brand of apple cider vinegar. Even nasty little insects know the good stuff when they smell it. And don’t forget this is a full proof way to get rid of these nasty pests inexpensively, easy, and organically.
