Paul Gauguin Cruises is preparing for two special itineraries in the month of August. For the August 7 and August 14 sailings, Paul Gauguin is honored to have celebrated photographers Jesse Kalisher and Roger Paperno, who will be on board to conduct several lectures and workshop excursions. Graphic Designer, Helen Kalisher will be conducting a Photoshop class as well.
The photo expeditions will cover a wide array of subjects and techniques. Kalisher and Paperno will share techniques on how to photograph Tahiti’s extraordinary foliage, Moorea’s vast pineapple fields, the view of Bora Bora’s harbor from atop Pahonu Hill, and even outdoor portraits in Taha’a.
Workshops are not included in the cruise itself and cost an additional $350 per person. The workshops include a private portfolio review, a hosted dinner, and round table discussions.

Photo Workshops Itineraries
Trail of the Ancients in Moorea – Travel through Moorea and photograph landscapes, beaches, hilltop vistas, and archeological ruins. The photo experts will help you decide when your photos will benefit from a wide-angle or a telephoto lens. They will teach you about perspective and how to achieve that perfect shot in the middle of paradise. This excursion includes photo guides Roger Paperno and Jesse Kalisher, and archeologist Mark Eddowes. Excursion only on August 7 sailing.
Bora Bora – Off-Road Photographic Adventure – Enjoy a truly unique off-road photographic adventure that explores the less-traveled areas of the island. The tour starts in the small town of Vaitape in Pofai Bay and then ascends to Pahonu Hill to take in the renowned views of Bora Bora’s harbor. Continue on and photograph the relic WWII U.S. Marine Corps cannons that remain intact in their original locations. Photographers Jesse Kalisher and Roger Paperno will help you learn how to develop your creative voice, how to add perspective, and how to get the silken look from moving waters. Uncover Photographic Treasures of Moorea with Photographer Renaud Fayada – Local Moorea photographer Renaud Fayada will join Jesse and Roger in exploring the photographic treasures on the island. The tour begins with driving to the interior of the island through sub-tropical forests, archeological sites, and expansive pineapple fields. Stop at Belvedere’s lookout point for one-of-a-kind photographic opportunities of Rotui, a mountain which separates Cook’s Bay and Opunohu Bay. The next part of the tour explores the coastal road along the island’s west coast, where you photograph lush vegetation, manicured gardens, and a gorgeous turquoise blue lagoon. If weather permits, you will be able to photograph sites including the famed Magic Mountain that overlooks the northern part of the island and offers aerial views of the barrier reef. Additional stops include less traveled areas like off-road locations in the island’s interior and the Papetoai fishing village and interior of the crater. The photo experts will be on hand to provide tips on composing photographs and how best to use your equipment — be it a point and shoot or DSLR camera. This writer had the opportunity to do a Moorea photography excursion with Renaud Fayada earlier this year and he will definitely provide invaluable photographic tips and techniques, while sharing the best photography spots on the island. Excursion available on August 14 sailing only.
