New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli was given an enthusiastic welcome home and endorsement on Wednesday by more than a dozen Nassau County legislators and elected officials gathered on the steps of the Supreme Court Building, in Mineola.
Senator Craig Johnson, Assembly Members Charles Lavine, Michelle Schimel, Earlene Hooper and Harvey Weisenberg, Nassau County Legislators Robert Troiano, Judi Bosworth, Wayne H. Wink Jr., Town of Hempstead Mayor Wayne Hall, Town of North Hempstead Council Member Viviana Russell, Town Clerk Leslie Gross and Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman all turned out to endorse Tom DiNapoli for Comptroller in 2010.
“It is wonderful to be back home to receive the endorsements of my colleagues, many of whom I’ve known throughout my career in public service,” said Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. “The values that my parents instilled in me of hard work and making every dollar count are what guide my work as New York’s fiscal watchdog. I stand for the middle class values of New York. By contrast, my opponent stands for the interests of his fellow Wall Street millionaires at the expense of the middle class. New York can’t afford to have that in the Comptroller’s Office, it’s simply too risky. In just the last week, independent experts have praised my leadership and called New York the nation’s leading pension system. Today, it gives me great pride to have received these very special endorsements of the job I have done and the job I will continue to do for New York State.”
“Year after year, Tom DiNapoli has fought for middle class families on Long Island and across New York State,” said Senator Craig Johnson, SD-7. “Whether it was passing landmark legislation as my Assembly Member, or cleaning up the mess in the Comptroller’s Office, Tom has looked out for us. His opponent, on the other hand, has looked out only for himself. There are few better public servants than our State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.”
“If you are seeking leadership, in every aspect of life, that will restore dignity, hope and promise to our State, you should look no further than Tom DiNapoli,” said Assembly Member Earlene Hooper, AD-18. “Tom represented the people in the people’s house with respect and he understands their pain, their needs and their values. As Comptroller, he has identified hundreds of millions of dollars in cost savings and fraud that, in very real ways, help New York families to be better served by their government. I implore you to cast your vote wisely, as I shall, for Tom DiNapoli, our current and future State Comptroller.”
“I am proud to have known Tom DiNapoli for more than 20 years,” said Assembly Member Harvey Weisenberg AD-20. “There isn’t a better advocate with more knowledge and ability than our Comptroller. He has always put the people first. His integrity and desire to help people has been acknowledged by all parties. He is capable, effective, ethical and trustworthy. He has set a high example for all who serve in government.”
“There is no one I trust more in government than Tom DiNapoli. My goal is to let everyone know that,” said Assembly Member Michelle Schimel, AD-16.
“I know of no one in our state government who has shown the commitment to ethics and integrity than Nassau’s own Tom DiNapoli has in his years of public service,” said Assembly Member Charles Lavine, AD-13. “He has taken an office mired in scandal and in three years turned it into the nationwide pension leader. He did it by doing things the right way, the ethical way. We are lucky to have had his leadership these past three years and I wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy for the next four.”
DiNapoli’s campaign stressed his record for restoring ethics to the office of Comptroller, identifying $1.8 billion in cost savings and waste through audits, and his management of the pension fund.
DiNapoli has also taken steps to make the state’s finances more accountable to the people and organized a series of workshops for local officials to promote consolidation and cost-efficiency.
