This Saturday at Durango Mountain Resort (DMR) will witness the second in the Triple Crown Race Series: the Lift 8 Hill Climb and HB Super D. Adults crowned King and Queen of the mountain after the final race in the series on Aug. 14 will win a free Durango Mountain Resort Season Pass.
Registration starts at 8 a.m., followed by a 9 a.m. mass start on the Hill Climb and a 10:45 start for Super D. The kids’ race follows the Super D finish with awards at noon. Entry fees are $30 for ages 19-49 and $5 for all other ages. Categories include Beginner and Sport & Pro/Expert abilities and Junior U18, Senior and Master ages.
Points will be kept for all three races in the Triple Crown – this weekend’s race, the Ned Furtado Circuit Race that was held on June 19 and the World’s XC 20 Anniversary Race on Aug. 14 – to determine the King and Queen of the mountain.
Racers ride to the top of Lift 8 at Durango Mountain Resort (a.k.a., Purgatory) through the Coca-Cola Bike Park circuit course using the updated 90 Worlds singletrack re-routes and the mountain’s doubletrack, which Durango DEVO characterizes as “sweet.” The finish is at 10,000 feet. Riders then re-group and start LeMans style in gender and ability groups back down the mountain. Racers must do the hill climb to race Super D.
According to the Durango DEVO website – www.durangodevo.com – “The Super D course was designed by MTB Hall of Famer Greg Herbold and follows some of the climb route before turning off and descending down the 90 Worlds lap descent ending, featuring several new Trails 2000 singletrack reroutes. The course begins with a longish double track traverse, includes a 1-2 minute climb in the middle and some fast fireroad descents before a sweet new/old singletrack ending, and finishing with a lap on the Coke Circuit Course. The hill climb and super d course will be open to pre-ride on Thursday afternoon and Friday. The kids will race following the finish of the Super D and will do two laps of the Coke Circuit Course.”
The Triple Crown Race Series is sponsored by Durango Mountain Resort, Durango Coca-Cola, Durango DEVO and Trails 200 with proceeds benefitting, DEVO, Trails 2000, FLC Cycling, Durango Wheel Club and Bicycle Lemonade.
Prizes include a DMR non-holiday pass for the male and female winners in the Beginner, Sport and Pro/Expert categories. Kids will be awarded medals. There’s also a raffle for one DMR non-holiday pass, a Purango Dolo bike polo mallet, DEVO t-shirt and hoodie, and more.
