I remember going to the ground breaking of the Loews Hotel Miami Beach. Touted as the first new hotel construction project in Miami Beach in 40 years, concern was high among locals that the hotel would not stay true to the city’s art deco roots. Delightfully, those fears were completely unfounded. Nearly a decade later, the entire property is an Art Deco gem. The lovingly restored and recreated St. Moritz hotel – home to Emeril’s restaurant and the Elemis Spa. The Loews – makes the Lowe’s one of Miami Beach’s brightest shining stars. And thanks to Miami Spa Month, a full day of all this luxuriation can be yours for $99.00.
Someone brilliant at the Convention and Visitor’s bureau realized trying to get tourists to Miami in the summer is akin to selling ice to Eskimos and their time would be better spent, focusing on getting locals into hotels for the summer. Hence, Miami Spa Month and Miami Spice, two widely successful promotions for July and August. Miami Spa Month is happening now through August 31st and dozens of South Florida’s most beautiful resorts offer signature services for only $99. Many packages include use of the resort’s luxurious facilities and my day at the Elemis spa is one that you owe it to yourself to check out.
While I didn’t spot Emeril getting a rubdown at the spa, I hear he’s a frequent guest along with Justin Timberlake and several Hollywood starlets. No wonder. Ensconced in the lower lobby and tucked away from the busier parts of the hotel, Elemis offers an intimate feeling in what is surprisingly a pretty large spa. Opened in 2007, the $12 million dollar, 18,000 square foot spa features 15 treatment rooms, a third floor sun deck and all the elements necessary to make you feel like an ‘A-list’ celebrity.
The Elemis brand specializes in spa-therapies and exceptional beauty products. Their internationally acclaimed product lines, which now includes Bliss products, have a reputation for delivering innovation, quality and exceptional results. The Elemis Spa has a treatment menu that ranges from anti-aging facials and luxury massages to exotic wraps. Outfitted with his and her facilities, I started my spa day with a dip in the ladies only jacuzzi and steam room to relax before my services.
My technician, Lady Miss Cha-Cha, retrieved me from the relaxation room for one of the spa’s most requested services, The Be Beautiful Body Scrub (She simply goes by Cha Cha, but after this treatment you will want to address her as royalty). The treatment starts with Bliss’ blood orange and white pepper sugar scrub rub down, which exfoliated my skin to a level just above newborn soft. After a light brush down, Cha Cha restored my skin with a warm oil with hints of lavender and neroli massaged until I was truly buffed and polished to perfection
I took the liberty to enjoy Elemis’s other Miami Spa Month offering, the Beauty Booster Visible Brilliance facial which not only gave me an other worldly glow, but introduced me to Elemis’ ground breaking facial products. How’s this for a run down; Balancing Lime Blossom cleanser, Balancing lavender toner, Papaya enzyme peel, fruit active rejuvenating masque, absolute eye mask, amino active serum, a SPF 30 liquid radiance layer, all topped off with Elemis’ signature pro collagen marine cream. I might sound like a fruit salad but I feel like queen of the world!
I was slightly familiar with Elemis but I had no idea this British skin care innovator, part of the Steiner beauty company, owned so many skincare lines and the full slate of products available. In addition, Elemis has a wide range of detox and other nourishing therapies that are not part of Miami Spa Month, but definitely worth a trip back to Elemis spa. Be sure to request the spa’s brochure for a complete listing of services.
