With marijuana decriminalization becoming such a hot topic these days, you have to ask yourself, where do I stand? Whether you are for or against, the time has come where you are going to have to make a decision about it. If you don’t know anything that has happened around the state, here is a brief summary.
On the support side there has been a recent attempt to pass SB 368/AB 544 The Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act. Breakdown of the bill: Introduced by a number of representatives from around the state, it:
Would allow people with debilitating medical conditions to grow up to 12 marijuana plants or buy up to 3 ounces of marijuana from nonprofit dispensaries.
Patients would have to get a written recommendation from a doctor and register with the state.
If patients bought marijuana on the street, they could use their medical condition as a defense at trial.
Patients would not be allowed to drive or operate heavy machinery while under the influence of marijuana.
They could not smoke it in schools, parks and many other public places.
The bill would cover people with cancer, AIDS, Crohn’s disease, hepatitis C, Alzheimer’s disease, post-traumatic stress disorder and other serious ailments.
On the opposing side there is are arguments from a few state leaders that oppose this bill. They bring up the issues of federal/state law enforcement being inadequately enforced due to conflicting law. Marijuana possession is still illegal under Federal law. Questions on how tightly the bill was written, wondering if there will be legitimate use of the bill, or just a gateway to open the door to recreational use. They also bring the argument of marijuana not being studied enough to make a decision based on credible evidence for it.
There have been many studies done on marijuana(cannabis) all over the world. Most have put to rest the common myth about marijuana, and have opened the door to see many positive benefits of this plant. The U.S. federal government’s stance on it as of today is that “It has no medicinal value.”.
So now it’s up to you. What do you know about this plant? Where do you stand? Are you able to see pros and cons for yourself?
There are many resources available to see study reports of true proven fact about marijuana, both positive and negative. Take a few minutes to learn for yourself, because the time is coming where you are going to have to decide. Better to make an informed decision than to sit back and do nothing.
